Thread regarding USAA layoffs

A coworker got laid off again

The guy's been here for less than a year, but I've gotten to know him pretty well in that time. Before starting here, he was laid off by his previous company and spent nearly six months trying to find another job. He told me how stressed he was during the process, and how he was starting to lose hope when he got an offer from USAA. Now he's been laid off again and I can't even imagine how he's feeling. How do you even explain two layoffs in less than two years to a future employer? He's completely crushed and out of steam.

A future employer isn’t going to care. Easy to explain and verified with a background check.

@ae maybe the company was inconsistent with how they handled this? I was laid off yesterday around noon. I wasn’t escorted out. I was told to take the next couple days off and I would receive an email from HR with my severance offer. I walked out with my badge & laptop. I was told I could come back anytime (preferably the weekend) to collect my personal belongings from my desk. My boss walked out with me but it was more just chatting, making sure I was okay.

@bp mine was today, 9am. ED said to log off and head home, got home and spent about 4 hours looking at internal roles and applying.

@ac I’m in San Antonio and was laid off. I was asked to take the rest of the day off. I wasn’t escorted out. My badge wasn’t taken. My laptop wasn’t taken. I applied to internal roles all day today.

@OP hiring any position that’s cut in less than a year is simply poor management.

@ap They're expected to use the Onesource mobile app/external site to apply for jobs.

I heard the process is new this year. All impacted employees lost access and were immediately escorted out. There were long wait times at some turnstiles yesterday because of the number of impacts. Sad day for all.

@ap everything was deactivated before the meeting telling people they we no longer employed was even over. There is no way to view 'internal jobs' without access. Curious if this has changed from last round of layoffs? If I remember those employees had access to a 'transition' program that helped with resumes and internal job search.

@ae did they lose computer/systems access? If true, how would they be able to click on an internal role? Honest question- not challenging your statement.

@a9 you're wrong. All laid off employees lost computer access and were escorted out if they were onsite. Process changed this time around.

@a4 ya that’s not a layoff then. If you’re laid off then you have access to everything for 60 days

Same with my team: the two analysts they “over hired” recently were let go…so the strategy seems to be first in and first out, I guess…

A coworker on my team got laid off too, he was with USAA for over 8 years. Only person on the team to be impacted.

Interestingly enough, they deactivated his slack and email immediately. Last round of layoffs, people still had access for ~30 days.
