Thread regarding 3M layoffs

TEBG?

What's happening with TEBG? Heard of a re-org for the marketers. Does this mean layoffs/restructure?

Yes it is troubling to see that current R&D SVP of this business has nothing that he achieved except was a fun guy, partying, knew which leader to socialize with … and was rescued out of Solventum and finally got a plum job. How are such careers including that of CSO and CTO fir example possible?????

None of our current executives or executives in the recent past have ever built a business from the ground up. They only know how to do cost cuttting, spin off and merging business.

Always taking the easy way out ! When will they be replaced with AI. A cool $ 100 million savings right there.

@30k
No. TEBG will be spun off.
SIBG and CBG have many synergies on adhesive. Filtrete is the only odd child. CBG Post-it brand, hard to get rid of. They will merge.with Filtrete sold.
Now TEBG had an external leader brought in, bad one though, and there is a lot of competition for optical films, glass bubbles and graphic films. Looks like TEBG is the business to be spun off or sold with the leader.

@304 wrong way round , it's TEBG that will be 3M in the future and everything else sold

Lately, I’ve started to feel like TEBG is being positioned for a potential spin-off from 3M. When you look at the overall organizational changes — the removal of the traditional divisions and the shift toward a portfolio/vertical structure — TEBG seems to be operating more and more like its own standalone company.

It just feels like, step by step, it’s being set up to run independently rather than as a classic 3M business unit.

You can do internal reorganizations till the cows come home but what customers buy is quality and innovative ideas. Invest, people!

I see a lot of leadership positions being added but little to no doer positions.

Yup, all 3M does is to add more of management ranks, as if we don't have enough already. If making fancy PowerPoint slides and gibberish strat plans could bring in solid organic growth, 3M would flourish !

While most growth companies, especially Tech companies, are cutting management, 3M continues to add to its belly fat !

@19r why not, he’s great. 3M needs more highly capable and motivated leaders to help us move forward.

@19m Indeed. Quite nice of the interim ESC president to bring in his former BCG pal to feed at the TEBG trough for a bit.

@11d WB and JK have no concept of TEBG business. They pulled Q4 in with schemes and they'll soon be concocting another one for Q1. After a few more repetitions of these games their resume's will be ready of rather next victim....

@OP going on across the entire company everywhere and in every division… total micromanagement by the day.

So despite the lip service on doing things the right way and forced training on when to properly recognize revenues (for the unwashed masses), TEBG leadership is trying to pull forward performance?

Performance culture is not sustainable when pulling figures forward in a Sunbeam fashion. Innovation culture is the golden goose that paid rich dividends over the long term but short term thinking has ki-led that goose. Well played, GE patsies.

@zy trying to pull next quarters production into the current quarter, whether in reality or just on paper, sounds like something the dreadful Chainsaw Al Dunlop did at Sunbeam. It never ends well.

BB must be desperate for "growth" even it's robbing Peter to pay Paul. Throw in the clueless cronies he hires at SVP levels and this place is a sinking hot air balloon running our of propane in the frigid Minnesota winter.

What a frigging mess!

@zy seems like you all are missing the key point BB is driving on performance culture. If you all don’t like it, then leave and don’t be dead weight. 3M needs all businesses to grow all year.

saw the note from TEBG SVP. trying to ask the plants for more production sales to cover the Q1 gap. it is only early Feb and the executives are having daily "call to action" to track Q1 sales. plants are even asked to prepare to pull in Q2 sales just to make Q1 numbers look ok. Looks like gonna be a bad year for 3M

Heard that as part of re-org some sales personnel in Austin and St.Paul are affected. Some of the sales guys in Austin didn’t do any work but enjoyed company car, WiFi as benefits. They travelled because they had home related work but not because they have to go to the customer in that area. Somehow HR really did not care about it nor the leadership until now

I work for TEBG and frankly speaking I have given up on the senior leadership ability to drive growth here. Keeps changing and unable to have good foresight of an organization structure. And the nonsensical "Challenge accepted".
