Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum and UHC

I was just checking out the Layoff board for UHC, and their last comment was like a month ago! Are Optum employees the only ones living with this whirlwind of layoffs? If so, I'll jump off of this nightmare cruise and head over there! Waiting to be laid off is so stressful...

@v3 it should be linked at the top of the Optum board, but if you can’t find it just google “the layoff UHG”

@pj Optum seems to easily get around the WARN notice requirements due to the large number of remote / hybrid / field work positions that they have. Each of those employees are spread out as far as their reported "work address". Example - I'm assigned to a clinic that I've never set foot in. A co-worker is assigned to a different clinic location. None of us have a large corporate office that we report to.

@at Where is the UHG board? I only see United Healthcare. Can't find one in the alpha list for UHG or United Healthgroup.

@he yes you have to go through a training with HR the day before RIF so you k ow what you can and can not say. Legal HR and VPs know in advance so they can choose who to let go. If you call in a lot are a problem employee or use FMLA you’re a big target. Directors and managers do not find out until the day before

@pj not if the do it in small increments. And each division is listed separate sites so it doesn’t trigger

@q2 then if others discussing rumors they have heard bothers you to the point where you believe you know more than everybody else – then tell everyone what you know. Otherwise stop policing this website.

@q1 Except not all that information is factual, and some of it belies common sense

@py this website is for people who work at the organization to anonymously, discuss rumors, things that they know, and just help each other out when it comes to layoffs at this company. When individuals are on here giving information that looks pretty factual, and somebody decides to come on telling them that they’re stupid and wrong – maybe this is not the right site for them.

Wtf are you fighting about?! This sh!t is pretty simple and in no way a competition who knows more or who knows who. If you can give sensible advice or share something, please do. Stop sandbox fights.

@pw I can tell you right now that not every division in the company will be 25%. That I do know

@pv I didn’t ask you to. Wait till Friday. Then I will come back on here and we can discuss what just happened. I’m not going anywhere.

@pt So we're just supposed to take your word for it? Skepticism reigns

@pk I can tell you factually that 25% of my division which is a large one will be gone on Friday. And if you look at the layoff calendar that somebody posted earlier last week – it is in waves not all at once. So each division in all UHG will end up being 25%.

@pk
The timing is uncanny, same week as comp planner opens.

I dont have any inside info on size of coming layoffs. I do think it could be 25% but only on a cumulative basis, such as counting all layoffs over 2025 and upcoming in 2026. 25% all at once doesn't seem feasible to me.

I can't help but think the company could be scaring us with with rumors of HUGE layoffs. That way they think we'll be so relieved we have a job we won't notice how terrible our merit, RRP, and 401k match are.

@ph none of those are true. 20% across the board would trigger WARN in every state and make international news. Imagine the operational impact of suddenly dropping employee count that much, it's absurd. I do not claim to 'be on the call' or 'met with HR', it is just common sense.

Some of us need specifics not just rumors of 20%. Who is getting hit? OA, ECS, PSD, lots and lots of divisions of Optum. And what about those booked 100% to one client with a four year contract that states can’t offshore the clinical?

@jt I'm assuming they disperse it geographically?

A few thousand UHG employees are RIFed every quarter. They seldom trigger a WARN notice because most employees work from home. They usually laying off 50+ employees per office, so they don't have to provide WARN notices to states. I know about 20 poeple let go at Optum last year, they did not trigger a warn notice.

@d3 which division of Optum?

by

Post ID: @d7+1kf4d9438

@ak higher on the food chain here – yes it is UHG as a whole. January is only for one division of Optum. So pull up your big girl pa-ties or your big boy pa-ties – the other dates posted on the Optum website originally are correct and that is the rest of the divisions UHG outside of Optum.

@a2 you do know that often is a bigger company than UHC, right?😏 Optum is a licensed healthcare company and has been around for a very long time before United health group bought them. They also sell their business to their insurance companies, not just United Healthcare so to say that Optum is only here because UHC is the d-mbest comment ever anybody has ever posted.

@OP You’re looking at the wrong board. The UHC board is inactive, but the UHG board is very active

The layoffs are UHG company wide. Optum first and UHc second. It’s not just Optum.

UHC is the reason Optum exists. It's literally a shell game to overcome the MLR. Optum could be super successful and profitable if it were spun off, but we're here to keep SH's dream alive
