Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Isn’t it obvious?

There’s been an outcry in various forums for Target leaders to release statements against the recent events in Minneapolis. I’m confident that won’t happen. If it does, it likely won’t be the response many of us are looking for.

If you haven’t realized it by now, several of Target’s top executives are supportive of this political administration’s policies. Their donation to the president’s inauguration fund, the decisions to remove Pride merchandise, and the DEI rollback should tell you all you need to know.

Statements are meaningless and would help nobody.

What Target should do is not allow ICE to come into the stores. Target is still private property, and ICE agents have shown a willingness to harm anyone and everyone to further their mission. Diss-allowing ICE in the stores is now a matter of public safety.

Post signs, then instruct security to not allow ICE in the store.

@qr I’m so sorry that you (and so many others) are faced with this. :(

@mx Yep. As a Puerto Rican-American, I’m so terrified that my Real ID may not be enough to prove that I am indeed Puerto Rican, and that I am indeed a citizen that I may consider going out and getting a passport card to fit in my wallet. I shouldn’t have to do that and I should actually be in reimbursed by the Trump administration for doing so but I don’t feel like carrying around a bulky passport book to prove that I was born here. And I most certainly don’t want to carry around an original copy of my birth certificate for fear of losing it.

@gq Ummm, no it is not. A Real ID only proves one of two things; 1) You are a US citizen by birth OR 2) You have lawful presence in this country (visa/green card).

That is all.

Sure, undocumented immigrants cannot get a real ID, but having a real ID doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t be detained so that ICE can make sure that your visa or green card isn’t expired; even if you proclaim that you are a US citizen.

Let’s be clear here that if you are black/brown or Asian, you will stick out like a sore thumb and it’s now called a Kavanagh Stop; and it’s legal racial profiling. Meanwhile, all the white Europeans who have overstayed their visas or came into the country illegally are free to walk around unharassed.

@fb large companies use e-verify. It’s nearly impossible to hire someone illegally. This is all about racial profiling. And it’s criminal.

@fb Even if you are legal - and black or brown - you DO still need to worry. US citizens and legal residents are being kidnapped off of the streets.

A "real ID" driver's license is proof of citizenship.

If you are legal, there should be nothing to worry about. If Target is hiring illegals, either with false documents or turning a blind eye, then they should be held accountable as well. I work in a distribution center, where around 20%, cannot speak, read, or understand English. That is frightening, as all training documents, especially those tied to safety, could seriously injure or even ki-l someone if proper processes are not followed. ICE should come and review our records, it would be interesting to see. Especially since I personally have overheard others share their call ins were tied to ICE activity and concern over being stopped on their way to/from work. If they are legal, why be afraid? Valid work visas, immigration and naturalization cards used to gain employment are supposed to kept on your person at all times anyway, so easy enough to prove you have the right to be here.

@dv not OP, but I think that’s what this post is pointing out. They won’t act because they don’t see a problem, and ultimately support the actions of the federal government. No amount of wanting can change that.

Unfortunately, they aren't “legally” required to do anything, even if they are morally obligated to.

@OP We need leaders to comment and take a stand on whether or not their Team Members can be abducted on the job. This is now a hostile and dangerous workplace situation for EVERYONE who works at the company. It’s documented and no one can reasonably say it’s not. They are LEGALLY obligated to act. Michael Fiddelke, Adrienne Costanzo, the Board. All of these people should face personal legal exposure for failing to act.

I wrote this in another, I will leave it here again so people know.

I can tell you that Target did very little in trying to get our 2nd TM who is 17, and a a US Citizen back or even our 1st TM who was dropped off at the Bloomington Walmart. He was released and dropped in about 45 minutes. There’s video out there of it, it’s awful.
The 2nd TM’s return took hours, into the night. The 17 year olds mom was begging for help from anyone. She had no idea where he was. Target wasn’t there.
Both returned with physical and emotional wounds. Target has done nothing. Nothing legal. Has left them to figure everything out on their own.
So as employees there is no support by Target for us. This proves it. And yes, I am telling the truth. You should be furious. I know I am.
Apologies for how jumbled this is written, but I am exhausted and wanted to get it out.

This. Leaders were willing to alienate their progressive customer base before, there’s no chance they come out in support now. They’ve chosen their side.
