Unassigned seating… except for leaders.

Welp, looks like another ‘rules for thee, not for me.’

‘Select’ leaders will have assigned spaces for ‘business continuity’

It would be bad to give them a widdle inconvenience. Poor babies.

What did you think was going to happen? Stuff like this has been going on for decades. Those in the Head Shed don't follow the same rules as everyone else.

@OP You can stop calling them 'leaders'. All the leaders in Chevron either got laid off or left years ago. All we have are Day Care Minders. The company places zero faith in the employees to do their jobs and the employees have zero faith in the management to provide leadership.

It may surprise you to learn that the function of sites evolves and changes organically over time.

This site has become a common meeting point for current and ex-Chevron employees to meet and discuss the company, which is important as there are very few mechanisms for alumni to keep in touch, and there are no safe communication channels internally where discourse can proceed freely.

The new office is a marvel of modern design — ergonomic spaces, smart screens, seamless connectivity everywhere. Ironically, the only thing not seamlessly connected is half the GOA leadership, who still approach the simple act of plugging in a laptop like it’s a deepwater exploration campaign requiring a full risk register and a pre-drill hazard workshop.

And let’s be honest: if connecting HDMI is already a heroic challenge, imagine the odds of them navigating even the most basic geoscience concepts. Watching some of these leaders interpret a seismic line is like watching someone try to read hieroglyphics upside down — with the lights off — while insisting they’re providing ‘strategic guidance.’

Leadership, of course, is another fascinating frontier. We keep hearing about ‘vision’ and ‘alignment,’ yet the only alignment consistently missing is between their confidence and their actual understanding of the subsurface. It’s almost admirable how boldly they make decisions with the same level of geological insight as someone choosing a wine based solely on the color of the label.

The true price of leadership is the willingness to place the needs of others above your own. Great leaders truly care about those they are privileged to lead and understand that the true cost of the leadership privilege comes at the expense of self-interest.

Having a job is better than not having a job in my opinion, and right now I do not have one but most of you evidently do. I thought this site was for laid off people looking for work and getting tips. It seems to be turning into a petty complaints site recently.

@a5 in order for assigned seating to be considered a better office, that would have to imply that unassigned seating is worse. And therefore it’s an acknowledgment that the new system is worse than the assigned seating that used to be provided.

I don’t think anyone minds the boss getting a better seat.

I think people mind being given something worse and told it’s better.

You have remember most of Chevron’s leaders don’t understand how to connect a monitor to a laptop via USB-C. The business continuity is so the can leave their computer setup, and log back in the next day to Teams, Excel and Outlook (the only three applications they know how to use) like nothing ever happened.

Oh, and habit is important - they might get lost walking from the elevators if their working location changes too often.
