Thread regarding Belk layoffs

I can’t wait for the holiday season to be over

I’m close to a breaking point and more exhausted than I’ve ever been. After this rush, it will just turn into anxiety about the job, the future of the store, and what happens next. I badly need real rest, and I doubt I’ll get any. I hope the rest of you are doing better. This time of year is absolutely brutal.

They have really tried to spread us thin during the holidays in our store. No additional help had been hired, so they just understaffed and overworked each department. There were nights when there was hardly anyone on the floor. It was exhausting to say the least, especially with these extended store hours.

@OP I’ve had such a bad attitude this year, because it has been so exhausting. They keep piling extra work on to some of us. Normally we can request some days off right after Christmas but not this year. I guess that’s the new normal. I get the feeling there will be more new normals to come. I’m very annoyed by that. A lot of us have PTO we need to use.
I’m retiring in near future so I’m going to ride it out.

@ad I don’t see Belk not renewing the polo contract if it’s really expiring. I mean it’s only sold in the gold stores and has a large presence in those stores

@a2 do you not have an idea of how many closings there will be? You saying to keep the few strong stores open makes it sound like there will be hundreds of closings.

@a2. I’m astonished that Belk is able to retain any type of employee, from the highest level to lowest level. The atmosphere and vibe of the company is so bizarre, and people either have blinders on and can’t see what’s happening, perhaps some are just not very intelligent and unaware of obvious signs of trouble, or some just want to ride it out to the end and collect unemployment when they shut down, whatever the reason is, anyone who thinks this is operating as a normal retail company, even during these tough times for retail, is sourly mistaken.
