Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

I know for certain that there were layoffs in 1990. However, they were poorly communicated throughout the bank.

Mgmt does not let the workers know they are going to be laid off until maybe two months before it is going to happen.

I do know some people in other departments who I interacted with do to our jobs.
One of them told me she felt she was going to be let go after 15years.
I asked her why and she told me the following.

Suddenly a Temp worker was brought in and she was asked to train them.
As time went on the Temp took on more of her job duties and her role decrease.

Then within the 5 month period of the Temp coming in and being trained by her. She
was let go.

Yes the company is very tight lipped when sharing information.

When did the downfall of this once great company start ?
Easy in the year 2005 layoffs started and have become a yearly event since.
