Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What’s up with managers these days?

They’ve been on a downward spiral for ages. This is my fourth bank in 30+ years, and the last competent manager I saw was basically ancient history. Feels like they’re mass-producing these “leaders” in some cheap clone factory with subpar materials.

What’s NOT up with these managers? Soo out of touch.

Those leaders that have been here a longtime are just coasting and everyone knows it.

@OP The Managing Directors and Executive Directors at this bank are by far the worst I have ever seen. They have no idea what they are doing and have no vision to lead the groups they are in charge of. All they do is react to job elimination requests and budget asks. There is ZERO thought in how to perform the functions efficiently and plan to continually improve the operation efficiently.

I don't think the Senior leadership has done enough to root out the incompetence at this level.

Middle and upper managers nowadays are only hired based on their lack of empathy and ability to BS. They are hired to not care about letting people go while having a big smile on their face.

People become managers and TLs because as some point they signaled their total lack of spine and their unwavering enthusiasm for brown-nosing. That's why all the managers su-k. Everywhere.

A lot of people in WF do not become managers because of their qualification but because of long tenure and network. Their knowledge is very behind and they do not want to learn anything new. One of the good examples is D1na R0jas: as a senior modeling manager, she does not know anything about AI/ML/LLM and she could not develop any model on her own. Smart employees do not stay long with her as she has no management/technical skills. She has bad personality and is very disrespectful. God punishes her as she is over 300 pounds, ugly looking, no marriage and no kids. Even her manager regretted promoted her :-)

It seems to have been a totally shift in philosophy... old school first line managers had detailed intricate knowledge of the applications they managed. This was probably due to that they were previous team leads on the apps they managed .... or at least fully understood the platform on which the app ran (server, mainframe, etc)... now, many times a first line manager is not a technical person and is really only expected manage personel from an administrative perspective only as oppose to technical. Many managers struggle even with the admin tasks...
