OP here. I worked for both ExxonMobil and Shell. So, very familiar with the impact of mega mergers from Exxon and Mobil’s one. I remember clearly how much the Mobil guys hated Exxon.
I believe, in a Shell-BP merger, Shell will get the upper hand over BP, just like Exxon got the upper hand. So, Shell and BP people will hate each other in the back, but BP people will hate Shell people more. For sure they will smile and greet pleasantly in the front.
@OP Marge says, "it all boils down to choices."
You say this merger would impact long term employees. That sounds like a pretty solid inside scoop to me. You must be connected with all the right sources so please, tell us more!
marger-ine made out of shells sounds gross
This mythical merger has been on the verge of happening for at least 30 years.

It’s gone past being tiresome.
BP adds no value to Shells portfolio and lots of debt.
It would have to be a fire sale for our extraordinarily risk averse, one trick pony CEO to seriously consider it. And then it would be resold or shut down for the most part.
When you flush, and there are two things circling the drain; is that a merger like Shell and BP.
