Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Am I the only person who's actually mostly happy at Dell?

I have my complaints for sure but like, overall I have an amazing thing going for me. I have a great job that I genuinely enjoy but, realize I'm being paid less than market value. I have a fantastic team that I get along with very well and we are all "friends." Up until the stupid managerial "reorg" this last year, my manager has been one of the best I've ever had - new "manager" is basically MIA 99.999% of the time so I know very little about him.

Some of you may laugh at this but I do feel I have fairly good job security because I am on the FED side and I'd tell you what it is but, we are so tiny that I'd be immidiately known if anybody reads this...I am in a job position in which is quite.... sensitive to say the least.

I love working in FED because we are a tight nit department and everyone gets to know everyone on a more personable level. That's great for ppl like me but terrible for some people lol.

My complaints are the RTO, the random af managerial "reorg" and pure lack of promotions for the last 5 years. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy overall.

this tells me enough to have a conclusive opinion about your work standards and competitiveness.

@h5 If OP made valid points, no one would have attacked him, we all need to see hope and positivity.
But every single thing they mentioned was in fact a problem, who is happy in a company without clear guidance and changing priorities, with no career growth perspectives, mandates RTO after encouraging remote work,….and it’s all OP words not mine! The whole post just lacks credibility.

@h5

pointing out someone's delusions is anti-positivity to the feelings-first-crowd.
same kind of people will tell you the guy wearing a beard and dress is a woman.

Lose the stuck-up attitudes and grow up. Turning against someone for sharing positivity only exposes your own pain. Misery loves company, and the energy you carry spreads to your children, your spouse, and everyone around you. You cannot embrace growth while dragging others down.

Nope you're not. But you're asking this question in the wrong place lol. It's a cesspool of complainers, most of whom have been or will be let go.

I hope that when you wrote this down it made you realize how ridiculous it sounds. If not, read it again!

This sounds like something I might have posted or said in the months before I WFR'ed. Only after I left did I realize I was lying to myself and putting on a happy face. I was desperate to not be laid off into a tough job market. There were so many lies I was telling myself about how great the people are, how my manager and VP are looking out for me, how much I value the culture of flexibility, how RTO isn't so bad because it's awesome to catch up with my 20+ year colleagues. When I got tossed out last year, it became clear that Dell was absolutely ki-ling me. You don't realize how bad it is when you are in there and trying to be a superstar to avoid the inevitable. You'll see someday.

This post is so tone deaf to post on a layoff site that it almost amazes me.
Why don’t you just go back to the office and hang with your “friends” until you are the one who is laid off.
Oh, you’re an H1B you say? That’s why you so have a job and haven’t seen a good raise in 5 years.

I’m thinking the OP posted this as satire.

@OP I think you mean tight knit. Nit is a louse larva, the one used for measurement of wit.
Your tight knit group will unravel as soon the first ‘essential’ person gets laid off.
Don’t feel too secure, keep your skills and resume up to date, and don’t get cocky.

"Except for the facts that I'm underpaid, have absolutely no leadership or guidance, have absolutely no expectation or hope of a promotion or raise that will keep up with inflation after 5+ years of being here, have been forced into an unnecessary commute 5 days a week after being promised that we were remote forever, and know I'm surrounded by people who are miserable enough to seek mental health leave... I'm quite happy because I have fRiEnDs."

Do you even hear yourself?

I hope you've got nothing but very kind and loving people in your personal life because this fits right in there with the reddit posts of abused spouses explaining that their husband or wife is perfect and amazing despite a few minor flaws like threatening them with a hatchet because dinner was cold.

@a3 Job security and the fact I love my job. along with the fact that my coworkers are my friends - considering we hangout.

That's a lot of words to say you have low standards.

So, pay is below market, not enough RTO, stupid managerial changes, no promotion in 5 years but your colleagues are now your « friends » and that makes you happy. I’m curious to know your age and your tenure….because honestly most of what you stated is what’s making people unhappy.

OP here...

Also, I come to this forum to see any rumors of layoffs or just gossip in general lol. I feel like 99% of the posters here are in a sales role though?
