Thread regarding Optum layoffs

People are just walking away now

Our team's lost four people since the fall, and they aren't being replaced. All this extra work is probably just going to push more of us out the door. I don't see how this helps the company in the long run, but here we are.

I will eventually walk away if I find something better. Long hours, impossible deadlines. Working weekends and holidays with no additional comp time. Working to the point of sheer burnout. Everything is a rush job due to poor planning. I’m a team player but I feel totally taken advantage of.

I've been seeing more and more of this. I've also been through it, and I'm sorry you're going through it too. Trust me: It's intentional.

Instead of facing the drama and backlash of shutting down individual departments, they're just allowing these "weak areas" to quietly collapse on themselves. This not only protects the UHG/Optum image by saving them the public scrutiny of another widespread layoff (because they really cannot afford another PR nightmare); it also reduces the amount of severance packages and unemployment they will need to pay out if a bunch of people just end up quitting from being overwhelmed by the lack of staff/resources/support.

Leadership and upper management will literally watch you all drown as they divert all that money back into their inefficient processes and corrupt pockets.

People are right to walk away. There is nothing left here. Stock is toast. Congress, Trump, and Liz Warren all despise us—maybe one of the few bipartisan issues. Revenues are toast so they have to cut tons of expenses to meet guidance.

@OP Dont worry... they will lay you off and won't replace you either in a month or so.

Or you all are doing exactly what they want. Deciding to quit. Not
Sure why no one thinks their job is safe at Optum. They are actively hiring as many as they can overseas and there are a lot of companies , not only in the Philippines trying to provide those outsourced jobs.

Or you don’t know about the replacements because they are sponsoring green card/H-1b. The postings will show up with a notice at the top alluding to this. It’s a legal requirement and is really just a formality….its really sad but most large corporations do it. It was suppose to stop companies from hiring non-citizens over citizens …. but it doesn’t
