Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Linkedin

I have noticed individuals who accepted the VSP last year now asserting that they chose to leave rather than being laid off on LinkedIn. VSP acceptance and being laid off as functionally the same, as both indicate the company was not invested in retaining those roles. Trying to reframe VSP acceptance a year later as a superior decision does not change the core reality that those positions were considered replaceable. Such a coward move to stay quiet for a year then come out talking about lay offs when it’s easy. Cowards!

I have seen posts on here mentioning that specific Senior Directors are updating their LinkedIn profiles to "open to work," but the authors are refusing to name these individuals. DONT BE A COWARD. If you have firsthand, verifiable information about specific SDs, please include their names when posting.

@av

VSP - can come back as contractor after 6 months (many did)
RIF - not likely to be rehired - ever, but can come back as contractor after 6 months

So it's a wash except that VSP got way more severance and a longer benefit coverage period

Most people who took VSP never surpassed their VZ career. Their biggest glory is that they took VSP “on their own terms”

VSP has to be applied for and approved. It's voluntary and the severance and benefits are higher than a RIF. Also you are on payroll for months before your last day versus 30 days. Can work for a contractor but VSPers cannot apply for a Verizon position once gone.

VSP=can not rehired by VZ.
RIF=Can be rehired 6months after package

This post was mo--nic. Anyone with a brain who didn't take the VSP was concerned about the possibility of a RIF like this taking place down the road. Saying otherwise is yet another foolish example of false equivalence. Wake up!

VSP is Voluntary…..I took the VSP in 2019…..it was definitely my decision. I had to stick around for a year and train my replacements (3 people took over my position because I support a lot of different tech stacks). They all quit within 6 months

they're gone and they can do whatever they want to do. Maybe you can yell at them on linkedin and get ignored?
