Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Concession Devices

Will employees be expected to turn in concession phones and laptops/computers/monitors, etc? They can't seriously expect 15k+ employees to return equipment. Is there a way to negotiate keeping them? What happens in the event you don't send it back?

I was part of the layoff at the end of 2024 (enhanced). You must get approval to keep your phone number. You must return all equipment including phone, not optional. If you don't, they will not release your severance and vaction pay.

Good luck to everyone!

@bh I never had a loan from mine but one reason I never had was Verizon or Fidelity did say loans needed to be paid in full. Now this was like 20 years ago or longer so I have no info on hand without digging and I might not be 100% correct

@ag where did you see that? According to the 401K plan documents, if you leave the company, you either continue making normal payments directly to Fidelity or it is a 401K withdrawal (and taxed as withdrawal if applicable).

@OP vz hires local resellers to come by to pick up your desk, chair, desk ph, monitors etc.

IT folks can and will brick any device that is not returned. I wouldn't be surprised if it already is part of the script that handles off boarding users from all the internal systems. Same thing as with the employee discount, you will see that bill jump like the next day... It happened to me when I was laid off from one of the other big two telcos.

If you don't return your work stuff they send ICE to your house.

When I was let go in 2022 they never even asked for my phone back. I returned my laptop.

@a5 beefing up head count. Now that's funny. So much cheaper to take the loss in equipment.

@a1 can't port your work number unless you fill out the release paper work and they sign off on it

And don't forget about that loan on your 401k, I believe that gets subtracted from your severance.

Concession phones are returned to and processed by the same contractor that handles customer trade ins. So yes they are setup for the volume.

Laptops are all also handled by an IT contractor that I bet already has heads up and beefing up their staff for the 15k returns

No return, no severance package. Or I guess if package then take a chunk of change out of the distribution.

If you are remote, they will send something for you to ship it back in.

Do not look for a problem lol trust me, they will be petty.

@OP everything must be returned. Even your badge. You can port your company number to a personal device. If not returned, severance will be withheld until all items are received. The company sends you all the boxes you need in order to return the equipment.
