Thread regarding Zebra Technologies Corp. layoffs

The usual old folks in higher up positions, that make all the money at Zebra, said how important it is to work from the office by wanting you to come into the office 3 days a week. As usual, companies like this pull this stuff to force you to quit as their new form of layoffs. While they say that they are profiting and growing, we get no significant raises. In fact, raises at Zebra are MUCH LOWER, than other companies. The higher up postions line their pockets, us regular folk barely get any scraps or a good wage to fight this inflation. They also love outsourcing people at Zebra instead of focusing on Americans. American company that doesn't care about Americans. Sub-par benefits, sub-par bonuses, sub-par raises. They try to convice you to only rely on Google Gemini AI summeries as they are heavly shoveling AI down your throat so you don't think for yourself. AI is just a tool that's not even 100% correct... As usual, consume their propagana that, how those higher ups love to think here. Examples of their mindset below:

  • Corporate BS = good
    come in to the office or else = good
  • Remote work = bad
  • Hire a bunch of overseas people to pay them cheaply and give those people remote work = good
  • Give the worst raises and bonuses = good
  • Hire postions that track every bit of your time AND don't understand your job so they can try fire you = good

How can these higher ups say they care for their employees when they think like this?

Zebra Technologies is a mess. ELT has no idea what they are doing. All the talk is lie in the sky nonsense — if a customer asks Zebra to put your money where your mouth is and show me a real life install, good luck with that. Also many acquisitions over the years have provided squat — total failures. And the most recent acquisition of Elo for 1.3b is a joke too — buying a hardware company in today’s age where you have competing product in a declining market — real nice — then they wonder why the stock price takes a hit.

Zebra is scuffling. The CEO is scuffling badly and lacks strategy, vision and leadership qualities of his predecessor. The Chief People Officer's claim to fame is being tone deaf to a failing culture while signing up for pay to play "best workplaces to work" surveys. His biggest accomplishment the last two years? Abandoning the term "HR" and embracing the term "People." For only being a $6 B company, Zebra has morphed into an organization with a mind-numbing and bureaucratic multi-layered management structure. The place stopped being nimble a long time ago. Everything is a hair on fire top priority in the name of desperately trying to unlock new revenue and margin growth. The only executives worth their salt at the CMO, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Revenue Officer. The acute problem for Zebra is that the partner ecosystem and enterprise grade Customer buying patterns are changing seismically right under their noses. The CEO can't keep angrily touting that Zebra is a solutions provider and that's all well and good, but at the end of the day box pushing is at the core. Partner consolidation means increased pressure on Zebra to adapt or whither. Major customer demand for DaaS models and such are being ignored...primarily because the CEO and CFO can't wrap their head around how the financial model of Zebra needs to dramatically change...and soon. The culture is in the toilet. Not just in the U.S., but also Canada and in western Europe. Over the next two months there will be multiple stealth reduction in force, which will further exasperate the bureaucratic, top heavy management dilemma and do nothing to address the sobering fact that desperation has created "everything must be a priority" mindset. Current CEO won't last another 18 months at the current rate. He's a smart enough guy to already know that too.

This mindset doesn't apply to the project managers or SEs. I know of a project manager who lives in the middle of the US with no office within 300 miles. The same goes for SEs. I have seen in the past some good people get let go for not having a home office. Such a double standard. It seems like services always take the hits so that other departments can be 100% remote.
