Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

When Will Enough Be Enough?

Forced on-site work for most teams, useless middle management, directors/VPs getting to switch shoes and retain/upgrade their salaries despite abysmal failures in the orgs they preside over, corporate leaders throwing out dead and played-out initiatives that also fail constantly (because they are all outdated, obsolete, and largely ineffective), morale in he-l, frustration across departments boiling over from increased workloads and decrease team sizes causing burnout. I'm sure there are others to add to the litany, but I'm wondering, when does the straw break across the camel's back and we take back power as employees. Do we continue to drink the koolaid or speak up and pushback on these incompetent leaders and processes? Please, if you feel or deal with any of this, it is time to start writing letters or something. This cannot continue. We're in the age of modernization yet things feel so artificially dystopian. Do not play the side lines. Make your voices heard!

"but I'm wondering, when does the straw break across the camel's back and we take back power as employees. " .... we've never had the power. and it's been like this for at least 30 years, where you wonder how much more can everyone take? How many more people can they lose? How much longer can they not address "XYZ problem". They just do.

It’s the kind of “freedom” you get when the teacher says you can pick any seat… as long as it’s that one plastic chair in the corner.

@a2 as an L2 leader informed a group of leaders in early 2024 - they believed AI could be a 30% productivity/cost savings, but they were going to make the reductions before putting in place the AI tools as a way to drive faster adoption and get the savings earlier. Still waiting on seeing 1% in productivity/cost savings

@OP

Trying to protest the current action will not yield any results. They've been doing this for going on 5 years. You have limited say in what is currently happening. You can only do so much. You voice your displeasure by leaving. Other than that, they could not care one bit.

I just give a sht less, help people and customers "slower" (sorry coworkers), not get overstressed and overwhelmed by a situation, a new directive, or increased workload with fewer employees. It's subtle, almost unnoticed to those around me, but it is certainly me NEVER giving 100%. Call it quiet quiting, call it whatever you want... but it's me saying go f yourself Dell. Dell doesn't give a sht about me, I don't give a sht about it. It's a paycheck. I'll keep looking in the meantime but as you all know, the market stinks. I suggest everyone does the same in their own way.

This company is heading to the bottom, get out while you can and get a better role at another company! There is no future at Dell.....

There is no sign dell is going to improve anytime soon, we had had over 5/6 years of cuts every 6mths..

If you value Job Security, this is not the place to work! This is a 6mth contract job at best, so treat the job like it treats you! With 0 Committment and Care! Stand up people to the bullying and BS!

What power? It’s not an accident that tech companies have been laying off tens of thousands. AI isn’t truly replacing people yet, but they have decided that betting the farm on some smoke and mirrors association with the AI future that is really just Nvidia at this point is a gamble worth scrapping everything else. They will leave no stone unturned in finding pennies to pinch to feed the AI bubble because now is when it is their best chance of personal wealth growth off the stock, regardless of long term company health. If we factor into these plans at all it’s only in so far as laying off so many of us has a bonus of also lowering labor costs by decreasing our leverage.

You feel free to pipe right up and complain. They’ll just put you next on the list.

The only way to do what you propose is a union. But that’s a long shot in the US.
