Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Lawyer?

I got notified yesterday...

should i talk to a lawyer first or just sign the papers??

what kind of lawyer do i even need for this.

How do i know if what they offer is fair or if theyre trynna lowball me. can i get more money or benefits if i wait or negoiate.

what do i ask the lawyer when i talk to them??????????????

stream of thought: what happens if i already signed but change my mind. is it better to sign fast or wait a few days. do i have to pay the lawyer right away or only if i win something. how much do lawyers like this usually cost?????

Also.... what should i not say or do right now so i dont mess this up.

Don't bother, it will cause you more stress, I went through the same when I was laid off, consulted many lawyers, I seriously doubt you will get more out of them.

Some good advice in this thread - it's good to hear from people who already consulted a lawyer. It looks like there is a consensus that there would be no value in pursuing a legal path. Good luck @OP...

Don’t waste your money. It’s pointless. Better to sign and to move on. The $700-$1200 you would spend on a lawyer is better spent on yourself and what you need over the next few weeks/months.

I consulted a lawyer ($700) there aren’t many options since as was stated earlier they aren’t required to offer anything. If you got 2 weeks for every year then thats as good as it gets. Best wishes to you. The market is tough but give yourself a little time to recover from the toxicity before jumping back in.

The other comments are correct. Went through it last year. Tried to negotiate, etc. They would not budge. Unfortunately you won't win because it's pretty much impossible to prove you were laid off for any reason other than mass layoffs. So sorry you were part of this. I would sign the papers & check it off your to-do list and keep moving towards finding something new. hugs and know you aren't alone

No need for a lawyer you will never win. Sorry.

Sign it, get paid every 2 weeks and move on free and clear. The job hunt is not easy for anyone. Good luck.

Don't sign anything ever, they will give the same package they were going to. What your signing is a non disclosure agreement not to sue the company - so getting a lawyer after you sign is useless

@OP waiting won't make it go up or down but it can allow time to ingest and feel like you did not sign under duress. If they have the correct details of where your current office is located and your time with the company, the offer is final. If they have incorrect information, you can have them fix and make a new offer.
If you sign and want to change your mind, you may need a lawyer. Otherwise i do not think it would be worth the cost.

2 weeks per year is a fair deal. Legally, they don't have to offer you anything. I spoke with a lawyer back in Sept when the buyout option presented itself. If you try to fight it, they can drag out court dates and paperwork for 1-2 years, and in the meantime you won't get anything. I also helpful to run the contract through ChatGPT and ask for more detail in layman's terms. Hope this helps!
