Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Who defines growth?!?

As I reflect on the town hall from yesterday I can’t help but wonder who defines growth? They say associates ask for this but don’t ask what associates mean when they ask for this. Instead they highlight trainings and lateral. Maybe this isn’t what people mean. Beyond this when people apply for lateral roles often there is automatic responses there is not enough experience. This feels like a facade. Do people want more trainings on top of increased responsibilities? Or are people asking for opportunities for more pay and higher title levels?

@OP growth to many people mean more money - plain and simple - and what the heck job do you need a PHD for - He-l I bet I many of us have more education than Gail or Morgan,

@ee Good example you are high in your current salary range - apply for the next level and your salary is already in the lowest part of the new job range - no increase for you - put it this way you are already making low ball manager money so you get nothing. And since they have not done a salary review that they can prove since the early 2000"s - manager pay is cr-p so that is why you bleed into that range now.

Also - some depts don't allow you to transfer laterally to another team - if it is the same job title so you are stuck unless you have a different title - supposedly it helps stop people from leaving toxic teams to go to other teams where they may actually have a chance to get promoted -

What I really want to know is how many “lattice” moves that HR guy took to get where is now. Something tells me not a lot. He definitely doesn’t look old to me.

"growth is a lattice, not a ladder" LOL Though there some truth to that, the fact that it's being repeated at multiple levels seems like gaslighting. They want to develop people without paying them.

What I heard is all we gonna be able to do is make lateral moves. And guy is trying to gaslight saying this is ok. Eventually people want to make more money in accordance with experience. All is see is lateral moves where merits become sh---y because you hit your MRP. Then you have to hear about how much money you make for the job level. Eventually no one will want you for a lateral move anymore because they can’t pay you less than you are already making.

@a6 You need to start looking outside the company because 10 years is a long time.

It’s all a joke. So sick of hearing about COC and now they have a new motto “be human” when making decisions. What is that even supposed to mean? Like the anesthesia policy that got shut down the minute it was put out? Yes a lot of being human really went on in the decision making process there. Not to mention the countless botched implementations that have occurred because of insufficient testing and zero feedback from the markets. Fantastic job!

I’ve already made several lateral moves. I need a promotion now. But now for jobs at my level they want people with PHD. Roles where a Masters degree would suffice. So I’m I just stuck now making lateral moves and earn cr-ppy merits cause I’m at the MRP? I still have to work for 10 plus years.
