Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Why don’t they let people volunteer?

I know someone who’d take the severance in a heartbeat. Letting them go could save the job of someone who really needs it. Makes zero sense.

@ac yeah every layoff I’ve seen here has either eliminated the role or sent it to India. Cutting someone based on years of service alone is a huge lawsuit risk.

My partner works for a company that offers early retirement before doing layoffs and it's the running "joke" that everyone hopes it'll line up with their retirement time. "Hoping for a downsize this year! I could use an early retirement package!" Not funny, but light hearted. Hugs to everyone these next couple of weeks. <3

I'd 100% take a package tomorrow, even a very basic one, if it would help others. My family is in a good position right now. My heart is with those that will take the brunt of this layoff.

I don't know if this is factual, but I was always under the impression that if you did layoffs, you had to just eliminate positions rather than picking individual people to let go. I was told that it somehow protected the company legally.

@OP I was wondering the same thing.

YES! Starbucks, Medtronic and others have offered packages recently. I would take one as well.
