Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Slack bug speculation

First of all, I agree that slack org chart is buggy. But usually it’s randomly affecting anyone, not showing patterns like what we observed recently

If the slack org chart sudden change means anything, i don’t think it’s comprehensive. Not everybody who will be laid off were shown as orphaned. But people who were orphaned may have some changes coming to them as something changed in AD that triggered some changes in okta that somehow, maybe unintentionally, got reflected in slack org. This change may mean the person is changing manager/group or potentially will get laid off.

I suspect that whatever changes that they were doing in Slack were interrupted by the commotion in the rumor site, and the activities stop. That maybe a reason that these changes were not comprehensive.

There are several threads on the Slack bug, and nobody has straight out denied that the bug is completely unrelated to layoff. We have some angry response on how unreliable slack org chart it; don't use it!; responses to ridicule any one who are concern about the pattern. Not one response explain how the bug could create such pattern and no one positively said it truly unrelated to layoff activities.

As such, although I still hold a slim hope of not getting laid off, I would have to assume that I will be in the list. I have started preparing for this since they announced it a few months ago, and hopefully one of the options I have will pan out. If that happens, even if I don't get laid off, I may be gone anyway.

God speed, good luck to us all.

@jz the response to the Slack issue made me believe it was connected to layoffs - have never seen such adamant responses f bombs insults all caps about anything on here .. beside politics
then the BUG goes away like it never happened...
i'm in the office 3 days and most folks in real life believe that was the layoffs by mistake for some parts of the company
management refusing to deny or explain

the easiest answer - oh you'll see that's not it next week

@jm the slack issue seems to be an extra touchy subject for the bootlickers/leadership themselves. That's probably because accidentally leaking your downsized staff two weeks early is an objectively boneheaded thing to do. So they look like id--ts. And the ir response is an aggressive: "OmG dO yOu peOpLe dO anYtHing bEsiDEs wAsTe CoMpaNy tImE on SLaCk?"
As if Slack is TikTok or Fanduel or something and as if any of us us would ever touch slack with a ten foot pole were it not baked into our lives by this same company. I personally have no trouble believing that they did something this stupid. Time will tell.

LOL to the comms employees trolling this thread and sticking up for a company that couldn't give less of a sh-t about you—you're quite obvious... And again, you're sticking up for a company that could NOT give less of a sh-t about you. But, godspeed.

This would be a good paramount documentary.

@fy agree with you - just the friday orphans - and just part of the company, the rest was stopped as they discovered

  • not any previous slack org issues - think HR was housekeeping and fed to slack real time by mistake - I don't think HR in here ever said it was unrelated
tuesday will tell if it's the three on my team .. our boss refused to comment on slack said "cannot" comment on slack
---no need to comment back angry that it's a bug - because my boss wouldn't say that

Been lurking in these threads for a few weeks and I am fascinated by how the trolls are particularly fired up about this slack thing. FWIW, in my particular department the 'orphans' lined up pretty exactly with who you'd expect to be gone (myself included). Also, Paramount said something suspicious that made me think that it wasn't just a glitch. (They said that it was.)

I agree with people saying to stop caring about slack. The only thing that matters is your profile in successfactors
The slack org chart is probably just a feed from successfactors into slack

people are upset over speculation on a speculation site...

staff mtg this am - svp quote "don't know if it's related " said nothing of a bug
ours only changed Friday - was accurate before - orphans and one addition

@OP IT'S A FREAKING BUG!! IT'S ONLY IMPACTING A SMALL PERCENTAGE IN SLACK and HAS BEEN THAT WAY SINCE SLACK ROLLED OUT ORG CHARTS

If you spend as much time on these conspiracy and slack "true crime" theories on actual WORK maybe you'll feel better
