It’s been noticed that no jobs are being posted externally in Chatham. Now the rumours are flying that they are going to shut down the office and move us all to London. When is this happening? Can they do that? And what can we do to fight for ourselves?

Information by the end of the year? REWS is running out of time to meet that timeline.
Have there been any further updates on this?
October email announcement said they would decide by end of 2025. Think anything will be said?
@1bh it was very difficult to lower standards to Enbridge levels.
@1ea they have been doing all these things for years already. Time to get the coffin ready.
Look, London was supposed to be a new building for the London team, then Chatham got tacked on, classic consultant move and leadership went along with it. If the goal is to cut headcount, why spend big on a London build? There are cheaper ways to do it: let attrition happen, make targeted cuts, stop backfilling in Chatham, and shift work to VPC even if VPC is tight, you can still wind Chatham down. The London talent angle feels shaky because the younger folks you’re targeting mostly live in London and already drive to Chatham, and they’re still gonna do that. And Chatham isn’t small either: there are four offices, with Bloomfield and Keil around 600 people now all at 50 Keil after the consolidation, plus about 100 at Riverview. That’s a lot of people to uproot or push into longer drives or moves, especially with four days in the office coming, so it feels like spending more to end up in the same place. It just doesn’t add up. I’m sure there’s a spreadsheet somewhere that says move Chatham to London, expect X attrition and talent loss with X costs.
@1bh It's not that Greg doesn't like us, it's that he just doesn't care. Not even a little bit!
Such a sad time for these employees. Unfortunately Union Gas got sold out along with their employees with the “merge”. What a joke! To take a well respected company down the drain like this is pitiful. Enbridge and Greg Ebel don’t care one iota about anything but their pocketbook. Enbridge is nothing compared to what Union Gas was in ALL areas. Hopefully Chatham leaders and council will fight to keep this location.
The goal of relocating is to layoff- cut costs-
The goal is NOT to accommodate employees
@133 agreed. Makes more sense to move 200 workers to Chatham where there are 2 huge existing buildings that have capacity to house everyone
What a bunch of id--ts Enbridge executives are in GDS and the REWS dept.
an office building in Chatham that once housed 1100+ employees now at 700ish today.
London has less than 200 now.
But let’s move 700 from Chatham to London and 200 within London to another building in the London area.
On no don’t move London to Chatham that would make a bit of common sense.
Typical Enbridge waste a dollar to save a nickel.
announcements on the horizon?
is that this week or next?
what departments are relocating ?
- wmc-?
@11b Expect within 2 years chatham major office is closed. small regional focus just for 'chatham' division.
Does anyone know the verdict on the chatham office?
@OP remember the roomer back in 2023 or 2022 when we all already roomerred this that this will come, wonder how Greg sleeps at nights , as he comes from SPECTRA or not???!! betraying his own people ...
@vn finance roles are slowly being move to vpc
Have been for a while as Chatham roles become vacant. Fin management doesn’t care - the turnover there is crazy. Once they get to 1 year people leave. Not a great place to work - the promises of the merger and unify didn’t pan out. We have 4 ERPs now due to management failure and most of the time finance spends their time unfu--ing the systems that no one has knowledge of anymore.
They announced it to staff in Chatham that the rumours are true and it is being considered and all will be decided by end of year.
Vwo would be welcome
If it cheaper to open up and expand London.
Close up Chatham will happen without a doubt.
Enbridge gives zero $hit about employees and livelihoods.
Greg Ebel should be ashamed!
I heard the Chatham office will likely close within the next year. Better start looking for new jobs Chatham folk!
They are slowly moving finance roles to VPC. curious if finance will instead need to pick Toronto vs London.
It’s in the works currently.
There will be severance packages / layoffs.
And of course relocation is with lots of variables.
The announcements are on the horizon.
@sj if you don’t move or make the commute then you are toast. They are counting on being able to lay people off or have them quit because they won’t move. They will not even offer everyone from the Chatham office a chance to relocate. Look what Imperial Oil just did. Everyone is cutting head count right now.
Maybe a VWO for Chatham based employees who don't want to move or make the commute?
who else is moving to London?
Your better off moving to London. Chatham will be toast as this will put the last nail in its coffin.
I’ve heard this rumour has some legs and an announcement is expected next week.
What can you do if this is true? Nothing. Get your resume ready - there is no union at Chatham Offices aside from meter shop. Can you fight it - no. This was a decision. Made well away from Chatham.
This was always going to happen. Union Gas does not exist - and there is only one Head Office. Enbridge made sure all protections that were in place for decades to protect Chatham offices were removed at time of merger.
So for Chatham - a 110 year legacy is now finished.
