Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Layoff envy

I couldn’t sleep all night last night as I realized the lucky ones just got laid off with nice, little severance packages. I can’t do all this work alone on my team. I have no chance of job satisfaction with looming layoffs in the future. I’ve been set up to fail. It’s become obvious that there will be no promotions anytime soon let alone one every three or four years. We all just got neutered. Ironically…that’s what we thought just happened to all the guys who just got laid off. What a dumpster fire.

I was laid off in the first wave also. Best thing that ever happened to me. I do feel like one of the lucky ones to have received the max severance. From speaking friends still going into the Houston office, it doesn't seem like a good place to be right now.

I'm in a transition role, leaving soon, and I truly feel for you all having to try to survive in the new org. More and more it is becoming clear what a blessing it is to leave this mess. There are plenty of jobs outside of the company I've found in the last few months so if you have a chance to run, take it.

Allow engine to fail! Period. Let them feel the pain. It is not ok to ship jobs, ki-l culture and not expect the workforce to just comply and do more with less

I’ve felt the same way at times, but landing a job has given me the flexibility to look for a job without the desperation I’d feel had I been laid off.

I still plan to leave sometime in the next year, but this way I can still pay my bills and look for something that will be better than this mess at Chevron without feeling pressure to just take the first offer that comes along.

I'm just holding on for the next layoff in a few years and hoping the package is at least as good as it was this time round

@OP if it helps you sleep better, you can know that people like me who were let go in early August, still have not received our little severance packages.

It was supposed to be distributed today, but my bank account is still looking bleak.

I read on here that there was a clerical error in the wave one employee distribution. All I have of value at this point are my resume and my unemployment checks. I'm praying they resolved the clerical error so that I can handle my financial responsibilities to my family of 5.😢🙏

You may be right about being set-up to fail with new org. Every reorganization is less people doing more. We are all working with teams in different time zones often waiting for responses , so turnaround time is increased. It is frustrating for sure. If you survived round 2 it’s best to look for something better before next reorganization. You can bet there will be one in 2-3 years. The new norm until 90% of business is in another country.

I am 44, and the severance package would have been like 7-8 months of pay. although good to have that money, not really an incentive to leave if you still need to work. If I get another job in a couple of months that pays 10% less, that severance will disappear pretty quickly and then be on the negative. I guess this post is related to individuals that already set to retire and are just working for more money they don't need.

I was laid off in Wave I, and I'm living my best life. Couldn't be happier.
