Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike in a nutshell

For years Nike has been in the habit of re-orging to a new formation, then clamping down on hiring so the vision is never fully resourced or executed. When the results don’t meet expectations, they respond with another re-org, leaving teams in a constant spin cycle of change. It’s hard to bring your best innovative thinking when you’re just trying to figure out WTF is going on.

Who posted about moving to WV to become a Coal Miner. Do you know if radio stations in WV play Loretta Lynn's Coal Miner's Daughter? That's a beautiful song.

Why not seek out a career change and leave Nike behind in the rear-view mirror and never look back.

A new career search should include becoming a Coal Miner. Working as a coal miner, you get to use some cool equipment every day, like jack hammers, rock cutters and drive big haulers to move the coal. You meet some pretty interesting coal miner coworkers too. If can you see yourself in a new career working as a coal miner, you should move to West Virginia where almost all the Coal miners there are hiring people from entry-level, mid-level and experienced level coal miners. The pay is pretty good too. There is plenty of overtime to work, if that is what you are looking for too.

Reorgs are the response to problems, that only result in more problems. Every good & experienced employee knows where the issues are (inefficiencies, what’s broken, what’s costing $ or damaging Customer relationships), just gotta listen. Some of the problems are difficult & complex, involving many teams to fix them - but doesn’t require a PHD, just the will to get it done, to bring people together and start solving the smaller problems which lead to the bigger problems. The ‘career maker’ stuff for the ladder climbers is what the focus is always on (new process, new tool, etc), not the stuff that would really enable a better, faster, more responsive, higher credibility supply chain. Have to do the basics right in order to make the cool (sounding) stuff work.

@OP - …trying to figure out WTF is going on while covering 1.5-2 roles worth of work because your team roster is only 70% full.

I wasn’t very good at Innovation Theatre for my first few years at Nike, but now my acting is on point! Exit stage left when ready.

Innovative thinking? Bruh, it’s shoes.

Nike needs to find its magic marketing. Gobbling up every AAU kid isn’t working anymore.
