Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Starlink Internet?

Anyone know if we are able to use Starlink Internet for WFH? I am rural and my current Internet is terrible with minimal other options.

no issue for now with starlink as of now, I've used it when our buried fiber was mistaken for a root and sliced through. the computers do 'traceroute', so if your starlink is detected outside of the lower 48 even if it isn't, you'll probably have a bad time.

Unless you want the company to pay for it. There is no real restriction. Use whoever you want.

Who careswhat the pipe is everyone connects via a VPN so speed is the only thing that matters. If they can run a war in ukraine via starlink should be a performance issue for some non mission critical insurance outfit

They don’t care. Some stupid manager tried to say something to that effect and working on the employee team, there are people working from their cars tapped into McDonald’s , there are people who use guest WiFi off their neighbors, and it’s perfectly fine. This company has no clue where there PHI protected data is .

There was a decision to contact the help desk or post in a layoff forum...I'm surprised this was the outcome.

I have personally went through this because of my location. Instead of optum paying or providing my internet I was able to just sign up with what I could get and it worked out just fine as long as you have WiFi with 30 mbps
