Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Sep05 layoff totals

September 05, last 24h layoffs total: 187, none in American timezones.

September totals, except Sep01: 4025

Methodology: tracking #general Slack channel participants count, since typically access is cut right away and you can see it immediately in Slack.

Regarding LDAP and dedicated HR systems - aren't they reflecting termination date, i.e. will reflect Sep02 layoffs only in Sep22?

So oracle news also shows 4k total layoffs in September, so general estimate lines up with is pretty well

@br I’ve also been using oracle-news to track.

As another data point, on Sept 1, oracle-news was showing 167,615

Couldn't you just query LDAP and look at enddate?

Using oracle-news to track here. It has a few thousand fewer people in it than general and cannot leave the channel. On Aug 11 it was 170,676. Today it is 163,634. Down by 7,042 people in the last 25 days.

On any given day in a company of this size across the world at least 50 - 100 people leave or start. I think you need to see dramatic drops like we saw on Tuesday to lump drops into a company wide layoff.

Hm, for the past 8h, general count went up in Slack #general on Oracle One workspace from 168771 on 6am UTC to 168824 (+53 added back) now. I wonder if access was restored in some location, or more likely some company was acquired before or now and their employees got integrated. Or something else. I hope admins didn't catchup to the fact how easy is to track through Slack and didn't start messing up with this metric for obfuscation purposes.

Anyway, I will discount these 53 to avoid messing up with layoff totals starting from tonight totals. However, it means I lost layoffs between 6am UTC to 1pm UTC on September 05, which is Asia and Pacific.

Everyone might see a slightly different general figure due to caching perhaps. In addition, there are several general channels in differe workspaces. I use always Oracle One workspace in Slack, and I calculate difference at the same time every day (1am EST or 6am UTC) to have consistency and before Europe starts.
