RTO, Question

Quick question for folks across departments—curious about your current RTO setup.
Our team has known for a while that starting in September, we’ll be required to be in the office for a full 8-hour stretch each day. As it gets closer, though, I’ve been hearing that other departments may still have more flexibility—like being able to finish the day remotely if they’ve spent most of it in the office.

Just trying to get a clearer picture:
Is your team expected to be in the office for a full 8 hours straight, or do you have a hybrid option that helps with traffic and overall balance?

Appreciate any insight—just hoping to understand how consistent this is across the org.

@cj Agreed, and there's no chance I'm coming in on Fridays. Traffic is just too much to handle 5 days a week and 4 days is 80% anyway, above the target. If they have a problem with that, I'm sure they'll let us know ....but I doubt anyone will say anything. 🙄

@OP Effective September 29, all employees are required to be in office every work day, unless on sick leave, travel, etc., but there is no policy that says we are required to be in office 8 hours a day, This allows for work life balance (flexibility) , to let employees take time off during day for personal appointments, go in later, leave early, etc. Plus, HR is having reports run on badge swipes, not on the duration we are in office.

How do you badge in for 8 hours a day. You're a dummy.

The details are clear in the last email, there is no indication of 8 h/day. Also, the RTO requirement is 75% of the days, so it's not really 5 days a week RTO. If you fear to get fired, going to office 7/7 24/24 will not save you, but your skillset will! Skilled employees will always be saught after, even in tough markets like now/2008. Upskill and hold your future in you hands!

You need to follow the companies HR policy. If it says, employees should return to office, it means 8 hours of working in the office. Do not listen to any managers, directors, other team managers, etc. When it's time for layoffs, and you don't badge in for 8 hours per day, your manager will not be able to defend you cause HR has a cause for reason to lay you off. Unless you get your manager AND director to sign a physical paper that says you can work remotely for the remaining day, and submit it to HR to place in your file, there will be a greater chance of your name being on the layoff list compared to those that do come into the office for 8 hours/per. Right now, lots of graduates even with PhD's are having a very difficult time finding a job. And the job market is about to dive with unemployment rate about to increase as corporations have less money in their pockets due to tariff costs. Therefore, unless you want your chances of being on the layoff list, I would just go in 8 hours a day. Many generations of employees have done it before covid, and many will be doing it in the future if it means they can take your job from you. You decide.
