Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

At this point, I’m just tired of all the cr-p

Not angry or frustrated, just tired. For years, I’ve worked here believing I was building toward something, at least some job security and a fair reward for hard work. Instead, with years still left before retirement, and too late to change career, company, or industry, I find myself dreading whether I’ll just be left out to dry. I deeply regret now staying with this company for so long, and even more so, believing in old-school work ethics.

The hardest part is the long term incentive plan… do you stick with it and hope to see it though to retirement, or gamble, take EOI and hope to land something better?

@g5 lay offs will occur every year starting with this one. They don’t care if you regroup bc you’re only left behind to transition the work.

I see your reference to 2027 as the next round. I agree with you and I hope it’s not before 2027. That will give us approximately 2 years to regroup. I survived phase 1 layoff but I am more nervous now after surviving because “when is the next layoff scheduled for? Haha
The constant strain on the employees is amazing.

I took the aEOI and my last day with the S.S. Chevron was July 1st. I started my new job outside the oil and gas industry after 18 years in it. After 3 weeks I am so much happier. I forgot what good culture is and have been enjoying my new job. Don't worry about being locked into a certain industry. If you are experienced and have old school work ethics there are companies that still exist that care about their people. Keep your head up and keep looking for a new company that appreciates you. Chevron doesn't have the vision to retain talent or make the changes needed. Good luck

@OP Nailed it. Working for CVX is death by a 1000 cuts. Management by fear.
If you read down there is a post from a person who must be in strategic planning way up. Bottomline leave before next round in 2027, it will be brutal.
Morale? no one did work or only 1/2 speed work for 3 months. Budgets blown initiatives delayed.
Now Engine will take over technical and AI will take over support.
Given Chinese rise, I look to China for next outsourcing...

All of us is fair game...my position - save save save and when the time comes - show your middle finger and disappear into the night...no goodbyes no bye byes...just leave and don't look back....

OP, old-school work ethics won't do you wrong, you just have to shift from working for Chevron to working for yourself (that is, your career, not Chevron's results). Otherwise, I can empathize. I spent to last few years of my career ba----g my head against the wall, as an unholy alliance of wunderkind and re-tooled expats were working behind the scene to dump the whole group I was working in and replace us with their "universe-changing" ideas. No surprise that just about the whole group took the 2020 EOI.

100% agree. This is the worst it has ever been and I honestly can’t wait to get out. Absolutely demoralized.

Been there and fortunately I was able to leave on my terms. I hope it all works out for you and all those in the same situation!

The probablity is you will stll have a job when this is over. That said, these never endding layoffs are ki-ling moral and employee work ethic, leaving many to wonder if this is a company they should be working for. Departure of many company SMEs over the last decade, and almost zero focus on training the next generation, makes Chevreon feel like a small company with no commitment to long term growth. I suspect many will be looking to leave, even if they are not forced out this round. All I can say is many friends laid off in the last couple of rounds now seem to be doing better than I am. Change is painful, but stagnation can be the slower depth at the end of he day.
