Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Networking and relationships is a joke

Networking often feels like a farce. If you’re too visible or make too much noise with your initiatives, it can backfire. It just proves that corporations behave like people—fickle, inconsistent, and driven by ever-changing, often contradictory expectations.

Some even went so far as to post something negative about a woman who was simply active in her network. It’s unfortunate, but the reality is that your critics are often closer than you think. Stay alert

Networking is all about business cards. How many you hand out, how many you can collect. Pretty simple maths

People speak of networking like it is a bad thing.

Networking isn't the act of shaking a thousand hands. It's the act of making authentic connections, and then following up on occasion the ensure the relationship remains fresh.

I've found that a network is best defined by people I would happily grab a beer with. It's not my rolodex or twitter following.

Legally a corporation is a person

Haven't confirmed status but the person I believe was left standing on my team really thought a lot higher of herself and her ability to "make strong relationships," than really warranted. Her networking within the company was mainly pretending to be friendly while simultaneously getting dirt on the people so she could throw them under the bus later to make herself look good. She frequently thought she was the highest of performers but couldn't get along with anyone to save her life. She frequently had emotional outbursts in meetings that were meant to snuff out any voices that she didn't agree with. And heaven forbid anyone take attention away from her in any way, shape, or form! I've never met a person that met the textbook definition of a narcissist more than her.

Thank goodness there's more to retaining employment than just schmoozing. #meritocracy

Being active with your network and reposting the same, trite, AI generated fluff over and over to try and farm engagement are different things.
