Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Why are so many Mattel employees toxic?

Not just the management, but also so many regular employees? I’d really like to know. Is it the toxic environment that slowly turns people into the absolute worst versions of themselves, or does this place simply attract a--holes and give them room to thrive? Help me understand, please.

@csq if you feel that way, then leave, don't drag everyone else down because you're boo-hoo-ing and having a pathetic pity party for yourself, focus on your own happiness and get out of everyone else's way

I can only answer for myself. I was mistreated many times and am still enduring unfair treatment. I think I’m toxic because I am disappointed with myself for staying so long and for not being brave enough to leave. I’m also ashamed that for a brief time I actually believed it was a special place. I’m so gullible.

Younger generation is easily triggered. Got it.
Dude the work place is not your personal kumbaya sesh. Sometimes people just want to work and go home. Be a grown up and deal. No one wants to hug it out you hippie.

@3w6 Wowee ChatGPT really does work for the oldies! Don’t get butt hurt. waves emphatically People are in fact donkey anuses at Mattel. Like other users have said, this website proves it over and over again. LOL. No matter what big words you use, no matter how hard you clap at town halls, the culture is still trash and everyone is fighting for a spot. We all know we’re going to be cut in half 2026 because of our cr-ppy toys and the pedo, orange menace. Save your sarcasm for the unemployment line. I’m sure the lady at the window can’t wait to hear your horror stories about working for Mattel.

While I instinctively suppress the urge to backhand you and use any number of different MMA moves ( imaginary, i really don't know any) for your sheer naïveté about the question itself, I start to think that it might just be that you are a product of a different generation of whine.
But I have to also say I do understand. Although you may have been raised on a few too many participation trophies and probably weren't taught how to properly deal with bullies I do understand. This place is a toilet. It might look porcelain on the outside but make no mistake what's on the inside. If you go in don't expect to come out clean.
It's everyone for themselves. No one's sticking their neck out for you LOL. You probably still believe in Santa too.
So buck up buttercup.
Get out while you can. Otherwise save that question for your therapist. It's included in your benefits plan. People are A-holes. Dry your eyes and stop crying in the bathroom stall.

It's a culture of ki-l to survive.

Look at those execs. Do you think they're there because they're nice? They know they traded in their humanity in for money long ago. That yearly bonus was too hard to pass up. It made it easier to buy that bottle of wine to help you ignore the sobs of the people that get laid off every year for your bonuses.
Or just take that week off when you know the layoffs are happening because of the cowards you are.

Yeah it's not toxic. Everyone knows what it is.
It's the fact leadership continues to corporate gaslight us all over and over thinking we don't see through the charade. Just know this: when you're up there giving us your rah rah bs we may be smiling but that's not what we're thinking. We're just trying to survive in this fake plastic fantastic factory.

They're not toxic. They just play along and eat sh-t and bend over when they're asked, if you eat sh-t and you bend over when you asked then you get to play the game. if you offend or hurt upper management feelings and you become part of this website

Because leadership is so clueless and insecure then they reward those who are also clueless and insecure. Grounds like that breed toxicity and mutilate any form of camaraderie and culture.

And they like it this way because it makes them think their 7 figure bonuses are justified.

I don’t think Mattel is really any different from any other workplace, it’s likely that the OP is just too thin skinned and fragile in general.

That fact that she used the term “toxic” is a dead giveaway; “Toxic”, along with other buzzwords like “problematic”, “micro-aggression”, “harmful”, “triggering”, “accountability” “equity” etc is the sort of vague, therapeutic, moralistic sounding language that suggests the OP has a worldview where subjective discomfort is treated as moral harm and where resilience is replaced by fragility and avoidance.

Honestly? OP, it sounds like you're an a--hole. You get what you give.

how hard is it to fire or layoff someone who is essentially useless. two demotions from management, yet still here as the "face of a major brand". surely, someone in hr or accounting has compared his salary to worth ratio,

@OP And everyone is sick of seeing bad leaders who fail up, take credit for all their hard work and don't support them when they need it. All while flying to Cannes on a boondoggle.

It's the culture. People are burnt out, angry, told to do more work at the same pay, and then under all that pressure, it's easy to blame each other for shortcomings because they'll be more visible with all the potential room for error.
