Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Back to the office

return to office. Get ready to lose good people who were staying for the modern WFH policy. This company changes its mind whichever way the wind blows.

Tony Sept 2020: "Thomas said Windstream would probably permanently shift to a work-from-home model for most its employees that can do so. He said employees' productivity has been up during the coronavirus as they work remotely."

Tony Oct 2022: If you could get back in the office that would be great thanks.

Many people could not work from home because they had Windstream Internet. Maybe it will get better with all the EMC’s installing FTTH. We left that door open for to long and will have zero when it is done.

"....made a tech cry once by saying "if you cannot forward a number in the switch then your job title shouldn't be voice repair technician."

Because it's so much better to make a tech, who has probably had little to no training before being thrown into queue, to upset them, rather than taking 2 minutes to show them?

"Its criminal what Windstream is doing to good people who are just trying to earn their way to retirement."

I can think of 5 employees that don't have to worry about retirement, they have a platinum parachute.

Well said!
*We failed to fully integrate our last merger(s)
*Software/ white box never panned out
*CLEC to MSP is currently going through reentry into the atmosphere before burning up like a space shuttle
*Technical support is a hollowed out carcass of what it once was. The off shore and covid planning were terrible

I worked in repair for half my career here and made a tech cry once by saying "if you cannot forward a number in the switch then your job title shouldn't be voice repair technician."
All of the cheerleaders want to celebrate our wins but they fail to recognize our losses

This is typically setup before the announcement of a sale. I have been through it a few times and we all know how unsettled things have been here.

We are not making money
We are not growing our customer base
Our upsell to SDWAN and UCaSS has been abysmal

TT and friends failed to wright the ship.
We are still really overweight in real estate especially when it comes to Colo, switch sites/POPs. The overhead of the CLEC business is ki----g the company.

Windstream largely kept the lower paid techs and managers. I found out that I earn on the lower side of my co-workers doing the same job. The people being laid off have are complaining that they werent even earning that much. I'm getting even less.
I feel like Windstream is heading down and they are getting rid of weight for better numbers during a sale / merger.

The whole company reeks of desperation. I definitely do not feel secure in my job.

Anyone who really wanted to leave would have used the WFH time to find a better WFH job

He's probably been reading all of the posts on here about how those WFH folks brag about "collecting a paycheck while they do maybe an hours worth of work a day".
