I relocated for a leadership role, and I couldn’t regret it more. Despite having strong PMP results, I’ve been denied promotion the last 2 years (I’m currently not even in the psg range for the role). Now there are indications the role may be going away in the bloodletting this year. I uprooted my family in the hopes of a better opportunity. I’ve upheld my end, and then some. And now the great LT will just shake it like an etchasketch.
I’m a grown up, and knew I was taking a chance. But if I could go back, I’d give a lot more consideration my life’s bigger picture. Unless you’re dying to try out a new location, moving purely for upward trajectory is a bad idea. Also, get the promotion before you take the role.
