Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Approaching HR about a bad leader?

Is it even safe to ever approach HR about tracked and documented poor leadership behavior? Something needs to be said but people don’t trust HR or ER.

I’ve watched this leader get very mean with his staff several times - out of line and unprofessional. Something is up. Not sure if it’s a bipolar type thing or not but it’s like a roller coaster for that team. Or…he’s been told to make people miserable so they quit and get no severance.

HR and ER protect the company. Period. That’s it. What they say and what they do are very different. You have NO true support.

Don’t trust confidential surveys. HRBPs share all of the details with leaders.

Your best bet is documentation. Notes with dates and times. Screenshots of Skype chats or emails. Keep a log! Facts are stubborn.

My entire group complained about our Director multiple times. It was a total waste of time. They will always side with the manager. Just look for another job.

Don't waste one second reporting a manager or 'leader' to ER or HR. You will eventually be shown the door. Focus the energy on another job and company. Centene and Envolve are unscrupulous and toxic places to work.

Did anyone tried Ethic point? Do they really help the employees or they are no different than HR?

Waste of time. Our unanimous team of 12 members met with HR to discuss a supervisor. The response was that we as a team needed more "engagement" 🤣😂🤣🤣

Don't do it.

All people in all levels of management, and HR, claim to have an open door policy, but a few years ago I know someone who tried to go to upper management to discuss some problems with their direct manager, and that person was let go two weeks later.

No one in leadership or HR is there to look out for the worker bees. They're all looking out for each other.

Nah. The only reason HR and ER is even there is to protect the company from the peons it hires. It’s all a set up. Sure, they’d love you to report your concerns so they know who to target to reduce the likelihood of a lawsuit. Don’t like your boss harassing you? They’ll smile and nod and tell you they understand. A couple months later there will be an “unrelated incident” and you will be laid off or accused of violating a random policy, etc. Any HR/ER investigation is absolutely absurd. They’ll never come back and say “wow you were right and we’ve fired him/her.” The investigation will always find the company (and its “officers”) to have done no wrong and then you’re in trouble for making a false accusation. As if anyone being paid by the company to investigate the behavior of an officer of the company will ever find the company/officer to be in the wrong. The problem will always be you. Smile, nod, pretend everything is okay and get the h*ll out of there. No discussion with HR/ER. Ever.

I went to HR and they took the Manager's side, but when the entire team called her out on the employee survey, suddenly she was gone. Strength in numbers.

Don’t even waste your time with HR - they are the biggest joke! I witnessed some shady behavior (people from non-related areas being promoted to positions they were not qualified for). I considered approaching HR but my sanity kicked in and I thought, “what’s the point?” Now the person in question isn’t even at the company anymore, thankfully, because they were slowing the team down and they couldn’t do the job due to their lack of experience. People think they can sneak through or lean on leadership but sometimes the truth comes out.

I quit after 13years of service and there is not even a exit interview. My manager did not even send me or business a thank you email. Centene definitely is different than most of the companies that I know of where employees are valued and the leaders, HR and ER puts employees first and takes the time to resolve discrepancies in a professional and ethical manner. Since lot of employees are quitting I wish they atleast realize now and take it seriously but it's waste of our time and energy so better to move on.

I went to HR on a supervisor who totally disrespected me, raised her voice at me, rolling neck and bouncing chest while talking to me and when it was time to layoff her and her director friend as well as the other supervisor chose me as one of a few others to be laid off. There was definitely no other reason. You definitely become a target, those surveys are a setup it’s not anonymous notice when you haven’t completed it, they keep sending you reminders? Wonder how they know you didn’t complete it? Exactly! Also, that open door policy don’t trust it either. Your best bet is to find another job or different department because you will become a target!

All that talk about leadership…engagement…associate survey stuff… meaningless.

Disheartening. I can’t imagine why people are leaving in droves…

If a customer (member) complains about you it goes to your boss to investigate, When you complain about your lesser to HR , HR reaches out to the leaders boss and expose who made the complaint then it’s up to your leaders boss to reply to HR with a resolution… 99.9% of the time your boss’s boss is going to have your leaders back. I’ve been in a leadership role for 15 years and I can assure you this is how it works in large organizations unfortunately.

I reported my leader to ER, and I was laid off a few months later. It just places a target on your back.

HR supports only the leaders. Even Ethic point which is a 3rd party vendor just closes the tickets in leaders favor without proper investigation. It's waste of time. Code of conduct, ethics, policies are just mandatory compliance stuff on paper but they don't protect the employees.
