Early Return for the Slaves - no fix for this

Honeywell is broken beyond repair. I just saw the propaganda email form corporate about how people are chomping at the bit to get back into the office before July 6. There's a new program that will allow early return for those who can't live without the stress of the daily commute, having a sh1t-stained, moldy ro--h colony of a cube farm, and the ever lovely yell-over-your-neighbor's-conversation meetings with the clueless and incompetent fools that run the place. Talk about clinging to the chains of indenture. What a crock!

Let the people that want to work from home continue and those that want to go back, let them go back. Seriously, this company needs to pull off the blinders. There is no work/life balance. There is an expectation of working 50+ hours per week, and all some people want is the choice of where they put in that time. Not a big ask considering so many other benefits have been eroded over the years. It doesn’t cost anything and could reduce costs and improve morale. It’s a step forward, not a fix all.

@1yzg @yng here.

You make me laugh. "I am an engineer" is so you. Kinda figured that.
I do make it work at home. I also make 6 figures fixing problems made by others.
And I don't believe in "I don't compromise " in business. There is always compromise. Maybe not in core beliefs.

You don't compromise?

You hate the company yet you're collecting a paycheck. Yes sir/maam, you indeed compromise.

Those who don't want to go back to the plant, I get it. But most of you will.

Move to the companies you all say support remote work? Sure you have the skill sets for them.

Going back to the office. Not going to wear a mask. Definitely going to have a very public asthma attack from the dust accumulation that results in COVID panic fear and people trying to remember if they should dial 911 or 2222. Next step long term wfh with blessing of management and a ticket to the next reduction in force after party.

I'm not a fruit, I'm the one they call when things go wrong. And things have indeed gone wrong. I'm an excellent engineer with the wisdom to know that you don't quit the job you have until you have another and that you don't compromise what you want. And I DO NOT compromise. Try reading Aesop's Fable about sour grapes and Aristotle's rules of logic (Ad Hominen here!). You should have figured out by now how to adapt your home to the need for two remote offices, kids at home, etc., etc., etc. You certainly had enough time (>14 months). You would be a good candidate for a government job with the rest of the useful id--ts or in Honeywell management where you can do the least amount of good and most amount of harm. If you don't realize that you're a slave to Honeywell, that's not my problem. You can put silk on a goat, but it's still a goat. GOODBYE!

There was once a time when working in an office made sense, like back when Honeywell had actual production going on at their U.S. locations. Some may remember back when Sperry at 19th Avenue had a massive machine shop and printed wire board (PCB) fabrication shop in the back. Also, the entire south end of the main plant was dedicated to manufacturing with big automated wire-wrap machines doing point to point wiring. The place was filled with employees and buzzing with activity requiring Manufacturing and Engineering support. Ah yes, those were the days! But then the bigger we got, the more that had to go in order to pay for the acquisition. Now there's nothing left of that infrastructure but a memory.

Moral of the story: No company outsources its way to greatness.

So, why not let everyone work from home? There's nothing left to manage, but email, and you can do that from your iPhone in the Bahamas.

I don’t understand why one has to sign up and also get an approval from a manager in order to go onsite to work. So convoluted policy. I bet a bunch of idi.. tried to do something useful?

@OP,
Just why are you still working on the plantation if that is how you feel?

Do you own a successful business that you can run the "right" way? Are you leaving Hon?

Nope, you're staying here and calling many slaves.

Let's see. My wife also works from home. I am one of the deplorables that doesn't have a house large enough to have 2 offices so we both can have docking stations, two screens etc. The wife does, I don't.

I won't mind going in 3 days a week.

Somehow I don't feel like that makes me a slave.

But I guess since that bothers you everyone who doesn't agree with you is a slave.

I don't think so....

For many mediocrities and do-nothings, office politics and gossip are their only game, and being isolated from the borg imperils their tenure.

Ask yourself ‘why’ do they want employees back in the office before making an adjustment to WFH policy.

  1. Reduce Headcount of Employees who will not return to office
  2. HQ in Charlotte soon to be completed. Butts in seats in new building
  3. Easier to collect the belongings of RIF’d employees in office. Save on shipping costs!
  4. All of the Above!

There are some people who genuinely want back in the office. They don't have suitable accomodations at home and this time WFH has been REALLY stressful for them. I work with a few of them. Has nothing to do with toadying.

That being said, there are still a TON of people who want to remain remote. 1 size doesn't fit all.

I saw that too and the first thing that came to mind was how hard it is for these brown nosers to get their noses brown while working from home. They need to get back into the office ASAP so they can resume their duties....

OR, it's 100% propaganda aimed to make the serfs feel guilty about never wanting to come back; "there must be something wrong with me". Gaslighting at it's finest.
