Yes, that's historical practice... but BD and AIG HR can change that, to benefit workers.

Just change it so sev gets paid 31 days after... that's an easy switch that will greatly benefit employees (to the tune of $10k federal funds!)

Wrong - They always pay within 2 paychecks of the official termination date.

IF AIG PAYS SEVERANCE AS LUMP SUM 31+ DAYS AFTER TERMINATION... still get unemployment :) They just gotta structure it right for the benefit of the employee.

If they paid severance as lump sum (not X weeks salary but say $X), it shouldn't delay unemployment.

And as a current AIG employee, I'm not wishing misfortune on AIG employees lol... I'd love to get laid off with a lump sum severance so I can get unemployment right now

Volunteers is the way to go. But many of those they WANT to fire would not be on the list.
It's been made clear several times we have too managers and not enough doers. They'll be other cuts as well, but 23s and 24s in high cost areas with few direct reports are the biggest target.

Depends on state. In NY it would delay unemployment and $600 supplement. Nj I think would not if taken as lump sum.

COMPLETELY NOT TRUE. @OP+14RiBsQO AIG Severance delays the Unemployment Benefits by many months. I lost my job at AIG mid-March so am speaking from direct experience. #BS

as suggested many times, aig could do the right thing and ask for volunteers
