STAY AWAY
Senior Associate Accounting
Current Employee, more than 1 year
Richmond, VA

Pros

There are none. It's an evil corporation.

Cons

Stack Ranking - This past mid-year, 15% of employees were laid off. I wasn't one, but they are attempting to fire me/lay me off due to me calling out inefficiencies within the department. Ignores Disabilities - I had explained to my bosses that I was having issues with my disability. Rather than suggesting accommodations or short term disability, they ignored me. I went on short term disability for a month and LITERALLY the day I returned from disability, I was told I was trending downwards in my quarterly performance review and I would be placed on a coaching plan. My entire mid-year performance review mentioned the 1.5 months I had struggled with my disability. Nothing about my performance once I returned which was off the charts. Backstabbing - Do not trust anyone at this company. You would have to be a sociopath to survive here.

Advice to Management

I have no advice. You should all be ashamed of yourselves and have a lot of growing up to do. This is a job, not the end of the world. Just because Rich Fairbanks tells you to do something, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Decency and compassion needs to exist in order for employees to thrive.

@9zrf+1o5qYfcI not only that, just heard that some of the VP and MVPs have left too, including the drunk+bankrupt lady in tech.
Moved to jpmc as usual at that level.

Curious to know who else in tech have been fired or left at the Sr Dir and above level

8yuu+1o5qYfcI thank you!
So, there might still be hope for C1 tech in the future months years - on the condition the Sr directors laid off were from the Richmond mafia. Otherwise, it's back to square one.

I'm in tech in the past 8 months, 3 senior directors I worked with were let go including the Sr Director over my team who was useless. In the last few weeks I spoke with other tech teams and they told me that they have Sr Directors who were impacted by mid year stack rankings and getting fired. :-)

@5jmb+1o5qYfcI I find hard to believe a Sr Director was let go. Not distrusting you, just in disbelief.

The Sr Director layer and above is the one with the most politics. They have been in the company 15+ years, low / non technical smooth brained ones who moved to that layer through politics and sc*ewing people over.

So he/she/it might have been truly beyond incompetent or maybe, just maybe, one of the good ones who couldn't take it any more.

Care you share more? Just stick to initials.

You can bet the promoted director had a little something to do with the boss losing their job. That is how it goes here. Everybody is out for number one and most are so hungry to be 'important' they will steal work, backstab, spend most of their time trying to get in front of anybody who might help further their career vs doing some real work. I gave up on any sort of teamwork long, long ago. Just pathetic.

A Senior Director in tech was terminated in June and the Director below him was promoted to a Sr. Director. This latter id--t then posted on LinkedIn about his promotion without the irony that his boss was fired and he can be fired at anytime too.

I watched the culture completely change the 21 years I was there. I decided to leave and it was absolutely the best decision ever. I’m ashamed how bought into it I was for so long, and how long I drank the kool-aid. I was embarrassed to say I worked for them by the time I left.

Do they still send out those All Associate Surveys?? I would love to know how engaged associate are how much they trust their leadership. What a joke!!!!!

And yet there’s still the kool aid drinking psychopaths that still post on LinkedIn that it’s the best, most ethical company they’ve ever worked for. They all tend to be MVP’s and lawyers.

It is not that your contributions are meaningless, it is that only a select few are rewarded for them and it is usually not the person who is responsible for the great work. FACT.

Capital One is changing for the worse. In the past 5 years of working there, I've never seen it as bad as this year. Most of my colleagues are already finding other opportunities. Why deal with such a hostile work place where your contributions are meaningless?

That's actually illegal. You have a wrongful termination case, especially with the disability leave which is a federally protected right.
