@So are they playing 3-D chess??

The board and Elliot kept them on until the acquisition of Frontier is complete. When it's formally announced they will all again get golden parachute and disappear.

"When art imitates life! I know we are not the only company to go through this

but $30 Million from the board to the executives is over the top. Rich people
taking care of rich people!"

I just don't understand what happened.

Yes, rich people will take care of rich people -- as long as they're using somebody else's money.

Elliott Management is the dominant player on the board. They are absolutely ruthless, cutthroat people. They're as sentimental and compassionate as an alligator. Elliott is not going to give anybody money unless they see it somehow making them money.

I don't see how the current executives could pull the wool over Elliott eyes; it's obvious to anyone with common sense that spends an hour or two going through old news articles that self-serving incompetent management is what drove this company into chapter 11. Elliott has been very involved in the operational and financial details of Windstream since before chapter 11. They certainly have to know the score?

So why is Elliott keeping the current team around? There has to be some angle besides stupidity or kindness.

Speaking of TDM services did they send letters to customers telling them to take a hike if they don't want a modern services. Maybe it's time to abandon some CO's and not move customers. I know there are / were teams of people working on those projects. At some point we need to cut our losses and move on, it's just more dead weight.

Who really needs POTS or DSL these days for business?

@3uma+1bjykkwF - What fiber does Windstream have???? They did a night sale and gave it to their Unity brothers to protect them during bankruptcy. Windstream only owns the laterals off the backbone and a couple strands---STRANDS of fiber. Windstream is nothing more than a shell protecting someone else...

Windstream and Frontier have alot of fiber, combining the two companies makes a ton of sense. After they shut down the TDM services they will have alot more dark fiber to lease. The only services they will offer will be Internet and VoIP. The will need to revamp the entire company around this new business model. Its coming, just a lot of prep work still yet to do. Covid easily set this process back by 8-12 months.

'Haha, there are similar post of the frontier layoffs page too. I think they have the same ideas that this is the quiet before the storm. My guess is they are going to bury the windstream and frontier names and call it something else.'

Call it 'Crapcom'

You listed quite a bit of doom and gloom after asking where to doom & gloom is. There is more fat then substance in frontier and windstreams structure. As soon as they ID the services and overlap offices & central offices will be shutdown with great haste. Central Offices with DWDM & VoIP will be all that remain. Windstream has more TDM switches then all carriers remaining combined. They have 5 in one building, they never integrated any of the clec networks they bought. That network is a house of cards.

There are alot of moving parts to spin off the spaghetti that is WIN. I'm sure Elliot like every other executive team realized how broken thing are when they peeled back the curtain. The only spin off to date was Allworx, I'm sure there's more waiting in the wings. What assets are out there to sell off?
CLEC
ILEC
Real estate

Also, I think everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop. AkA merger with Frontier, don't forget Elliot owns them too.

It's just the calm before the storm. COVID-19 is over and without selling services you can't be a profitable company. The boys got their money and now most likely don't care about the direction of this company. The reason nothing is happening, my guess would be is that Elliott is in the works of figuring out how to sell it off in pieces.

Exactly, so what happened to all the doom and gloom that was supposed to take place once Elliott took over. I think they used the US courts, bought a judge, and got paid. Now it’s up to the company to make something more out of the ashes. Too bad WS looks like all those failed telecoms in the past couple decades with all the management personnel. They won’t get anywhere with their current setup, too many chiefs, and way too much greed. Makes everything operate sluggish. Not to mention that all of their customer support is headed to non English speaking countries this year.
