Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Grateful

I was one of those laid off last year. After years of declining mental health due to RTO, micromanaging, and “doing more with less,” I was freed. Getting that morning 1:1 was terrible. But almost immediately, I felt relief. Every day since, I have continued to feel overwhelming relief.

I don’t make as much money as I used to. I’m taking a break before I move into another corporate gig, if I ever do at all. I’m working for a small company now. One that really does feel like family, and does really care. But I chose a job that I’m passionate about, and I don’t even care about the pay cut for now. I kept my cost of living low and everything else fell into place.

I am so grateful to never have to sit through another hour-long slog of lies about how we’re becoming more efficient through some indeterminate means, or how AI is going to save us, or how we do totally care about our coworkers and clients. Sixty minutes of nothing, every time. I don’t think I could have written a single bullet of content gleaned from those Town Halls if I tried. It would have been less offensive if they just told me they loathed me.

I keep checking in on these threads. My heart breaks for those who haven’t been released. They are putting you through psychological torture. They know what they’re doing. You are livestock to them. I’m so sorry. My thoughts are with those who remain. Polish up those resumes, and I truly wish you all the best. An ISP with a fat severance is probably the happiest ending you can hope for at this point.

@9ja If this is in fact true, PP is d-mber and more insane than I thought. She just sent out an email "humble braggin" about the record breaking year we are having and how we are crushing it. The optics of that would be awful

@9ja They sent the relocation survey out about a week ago. We all figured that we have about 6-9 months before they drop that bo-b on us that we HAVE to move to phoenix or st louis within a year of receiving the notice. This will force many to quit VS having edj pay out severance to the worthless peasants who keep getting the way of ch#bak$ excel sheet.

as of 2026 May 10th, there are more layoffs on the way. This time for remote employees. There is always some reason to layoff people, its going to be like this for awhile.

@ay I spent my entire career at this firm. I still have my friends here. I use this board to stay updated and will check in and see how they’re hanging in there if I see another major policy change.

@OP Our situations sound very similar. I was also let go under the “Rule of 70” after dealing with gaslighting from my direct leader and sudden micromanagement, despite being a subject matter expert. It all happened while the firm was rolling out VSPs, ISPs, and other restructuring tied to the ELT’s push for “efficiency.”

After leaving, I took a short break to regroup before job searching. I eventually accepted a role with a pay cut, but my severance is helping bridge the gap for now. From what I’ve heard from coworkers and read online, there’s room for advancement, so my plan is to learn the role, meet the requirements, and then pursue better-paying internal opportunities.

I still check this site occasionally to see what’s happening since I was essentially pushed into “early retirement”—even though I’m nowhere near retirement age. It seems the same messaging around AI and efficiency continues in Town Halls. For those who remember what the firm was like before all of this, the difference is pretty clear.

In hindsight, being pushed out of the firm was the best thing for me. I’m much more relaxed now. I just feel for all my former colleagues & other associates having to do more for less or having to clean up after offshore (India) teams.

Don’t listen to the indoctrinated Chubak trolls on this site.

Great message for many who are still stuck…and good for you for finding peace. Even if you feel a situation isn’t right, it’s often impossible to realize how messed up things and (and its effects on you) until you remove yourself from it. Godspeed!
