Springtown Union

Whats peoples thoughts on a Union gaining footing in Sprintown?
Operators looking an additional £3.50(ish) per hour, bringing them up to £15/hr... should higher responsibilities such as Techs, Engineers etc see an increase to match this? Higher responsibility = higher pay

Seagate Springtown always paid just over the minimum wage but shift allowance brings the rate up higher.I would also advise your friend to get a job elsewhere. Wages won't go up for a long time. They will always keep it just above minimum wage.Supposedly a semi skilled job but for unskilled wages.Seagate Springtown is not an attractive place to work.

Minimum wage?? That's just wrong. Cleanroom operators used to be considered semi-professional and were paid decent living wages. Guess those days are gone.

Why are all the hourly rate comparisons without the shift allowance calculations? Just asking for a friend.

Here's my experience working in a union factory. I sawed PVC drain pipe to length for a machine to get work done since the union employees were all too busy and maybe they could get done in a few weeks if they were feeling less pi---d off then usual. Next thing I know the plant manager shows me 12 complaint forms for doing unauthorized "union" work as a non-union employee. We both laughed. How ridiculous. Don't worry about it, we all get about a hundred a year she says.

If you can get a union, go for it. Always thought one should have been advocated for in the USA.

If management think employees will be any way happy with that measly pathetic pay rise then they are somewhat foolish. We are only getting started.Employees deserve more.Seagate are now one of the lowest paid company's in derry.Low wages and low holidays. We demand better. The power is shifting.

The trawler should look out for the icebergs of the economy and technological obsolescence.

The trawlers become a cruise liner picking up speed.

When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.

They want you to be happy with the scraps they are throwing at you. Unionize.

Only a few weeks ago workers in Seagate were told that there will be no pay rise as there was no money to give it.Fast forward three weeks and the money magically appears out of no where.Management announced they were giving operators a paltry pay rise.No pay rise for Equip/Process technicians, engineers or management. Why not?

If anybody thinks seagate is going to raise wages by 30%,they are living in cloud cuckoo land.Operators should fight for a 15% pay rise.Seagate springtown management have the money, they've been skimming it for themselves for years. Its fantastic that it is nearing being unionised. The bullying, the threats, the lies from management and HR stops here.
