Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Fisher Price Lay Offs

People that were given offers in California and people that were on teams that weren't moved still got laid off yesterday. People who got offers, still technically have a job but have to go through the whole motions of being laid off until their offers are finalized. It feels bizarre. HR set up a Q and A session that was very useless today. They couldn't answer half the questions. One issue they glossed over was Mattel's request to be informed if employees work for a competitor within two years after leaving the company. Two years? WTF. This seems questionable as non-compete agreements were recently prohibited in California and New York. What legal ground are they standing on asking for this? Are they threatening repercussions for working for competitor or not reporting this information? How are non competes still legal in 2024

Also, the people that still have your jobs at the EA campus, I suggest looking for another job soon. They hope to burn you into the groundThis is part 1 of fully dismantling the FP campus. They closed the whole model shop as well..

"Useless, incompetent, a-s kissers", did BB get transferred to FP?

Useless is being very generous

Try incompetent a-s kissers that survived because of the good old boys club and friends in high places

Sayonara FP. Not sure how you go forward with what's left. Nothing but useless managers, directors, and vps left. Shocking that so much management is left to manage no one.
It was fun while it lasted.

I left FP ten years ago. I lived there for fifteen years and loved the place. People change, I guess. The GW I knew cared, he wasn't perfect, but he was nice to work with.
KH seemed aloof at first, but then I got to work with him; he was very nice. I'm surprised to read all the things said here.

The campus is still open. 100 people were laid off, many of which will continue to be employed until June or September. The remaining employees will be business as usual on the brands that are not being transferred to Mattel headquarters.

So what is even happening? Is the campus closing entirely? Our kids have worked for FP in the Play Lab and they were called for a session. If everyone got laid off , how is it business as usual?

Yeah, a few years ago, I never thought I'd see the day that both of the Webers would be let go. I heard DW was completely awful to work for, very nasty, from multiple members of her staff, but I never personally witnessed her in action.

Regardless of what you think of the guy, you can’t deny that GW will leave an indelible mark on the FP brand for years to come.

Who said KH was better? Has his own issues and should have been replaced as well. One thing I'll say is that KH would say least say hi in the hallway.
No one in those VP positions should remain. TS should be gone as well. We need new fresh leadership with new ideas.

I will refrain from saying my opinions of either, but just say I’m shocked both the vp and his wife were let go the past year. I thought they were protected by higher ups so it didn’t really matter what they did.

Actually its more like comparing someone that has clarity of mind vs. a personality disorder. Pretty obvious and straightforward distinction between the two of them.

Wow, last poster, is that you K F-burger?
I sense that usual undertone of anger coming through. Have you taken your meds today? It seems your bi-polar tendencies may not be under control.

Worked for/with KH for many years. Arrogant, immature, hot headed are just a few of his "qualities". He is the main reason I considered leaving the company. KH only looks out for KH. Was not surprised when he was "demoted" and was reporting to GW. Many issues with KH, but as someone already mentioned, he was/is friends with Duncan from way back in the 90s when Duncan worked at FP. In any event, only a matter of time before Mattel rids itself of FP either by selling it outright, licensing out the brand name, or moving it to ES. Mattel is getting a lot of shareholder pressure to sell FP. Don't really see how they can keep the EA campus open or ongoing at this point.

GW is an arrogant pr--k. Can't even imagine his own family liking him.

Must be GW himself talking here or one of his useless drones that clapped like seals no matter what nonsense came out of his mouth

GW was way better to work for than K F-burger. His focus on all aspects of a product meant that he cared. He was always first to recognize and acknowledge those who worked for him. Having worked for both of them, without a doubt, GW was a way better leader. KH was a loose bi-polar cannon, that inflicted rage and anger to intimidate in order to get his way.

GW su-ks. Premadonna know it all. Nit picked everything instead of focusing on strategy. He destroyed the baby side of FP. No one liked working with him and he thought he was better than everyone. Wouldn't even acknowledge people in the hallway when walking by.
Also enabled the outrageous and illegal behavior of his wife.
Let's not talk about GW😵‍💫

Seriously, anyone who is working under K F-burger, for sake of your well being, insist on working for someone else. He has got some serious anger and mental health issues. Considering his personality and the negative impact he’s had on so many people, it’s a shame that no one in HR would do the right thing by firing him a long time ago. It’s another clear travesty in all of this. Not only is he not fit to manage people, but he needs some serious psychiatric help.

Very simple. Ones who survived in design were old friends of Duncan.

Offers were 15 to 22 percent raise. The 22 was if you also got a promotion. Some of the moving expenses were as low as 6k clean. Normal ES salary is 30-40 percent higher than EA.

EA salaries are below market for WNY area. Can't survive in ES with 15 percent more than EA salary.

Having gone through the FP NYC office closure the 2 year concern about going to a competitor is not a thing. Tons of ppl immediately went to competitors.

For context, could you tell us what your offer at ES was? What was your salary in FP with the 3 years experience? What department (Marketing, Design, Engineering)? Just a general range will do.

If anyone can provide a ballpark range of ES entry level for those departments, that would help. I want to know just how much below entry level your offer was.

Leadership at FP are completely disconnected from reality are to blame for lack of FP performance. None should have been spared and all should be replaced.

They are so tone-deaf trying to convince us that the salaries and offers to go to ES are generous when they are way below market value and cost of living for ES. I could get hired entry level in ES for more than they are offering employees with 3+ years experience.

But hey, some have to save money for the 1.5 million dollar lakeside houses they are building.

Moog su-ks. You make expensive cr-p that ki-ls innocent people. You sold your soul to the war machine and you'll burn for eternity because of it. No one in the country has even heard of Moog because you don't do anything good for them. You're just a cog in an evil machine - you might as well be an employee of The Empire building The Death Star.

“FP su-ks. You make cheap cr-p that no one wants. Nothing innovative and very bland designs that do not appeal to young parents”@2rnr+1rJkAAiC. Yeah I agree all of Mattel is pretty stale. What are you a boomer? Do you know what website this is? A job shouldn’t be anyone’s whole identity. Who are you trying to insult on this thread? Ynon?

FP su-ks. You make cheap cr-p that no one wants. Nothing innovative and very bland designs that do not appeal to young parents. Zero play value left in your products. Your lack of fight has neutered you within Mattel. Your leaders are completely ineffective and carry no weight in Mattel.

The final nail in the coffin is that you have no marketable IP.

It's over.... Move on

FP is (or was) a great place to work but it sounds like you dodged a bullet. Buffalo has a pretty weak job market, so it’s not an ideal place to find yourself unemployed.

So sorry to learn of the recent lay offs at FP EA and for how many are affected. I’d applied and interviewed for a couple positions out in FP EA a few years ago which would’ve required a pretty big uprooting of my life and relocation. I was very interested in working there, but the offers never came. Now I’m relieved they didn’t. I’d most likely have been laid off too.
