Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

If you could get a straight answer, what question would you ask at the Aug 4 LTL?

The title say it all.

Anyone find it fishy that all statistics and results are always positive? Also, notice his hesitations when mentioning “headwinds”, etc? That confirms layoffs.

OMG more career BS! Why? Promotions are 14%! Sounds as if careers/jobs is still an issue.

I ran the questions by Jen, and she rejected all of them.

She said, "You just don't get it. You don't know how to properly pose a question. It's a three part process."

  1. Then she explained how to do it, "First, start off with obsequious thanks or praise."

Let me pause here. I had to look up "obsequious". It means "Full of or exhibiting servile compliance; fawning."

  1. "Then", she said, "brag". That's right, she said to brag.

I said "brag"? Why would I do that?

  1. "The third part is to ask an easy question that gives the executive, or panel a chance to show off. Don't ask anything hard that makes anyone think.

The she gave an example.

(Obsequious thanks) "I'd like to thank MetLife for having the intestinal fortitude to come up with the "My Path" program.

(Brag) "It has given me the opportunity to serve many other groups by working overtime and using the many skills that I have to benefit other organization. I have also met many new people."

(Softball combination brag, extra points) "What can MetLife do to involve more employees in this wonderful opportunity?"

Just watch LTL, and take a drink every time your spot this pattern.

Thanks for all the great questions.

I'll send them over to Jen, but don't expect her to ask them. She'll be pitching large, slow, softball questions.

Is anyone accountable for anything?

Who owns the decision to switch IT vendors? Suppose it doesn't work out?

Why did we all get a pay cut after record profits last year? Why isn't COLA a part of compensation?

I'd ask how the Next Horizon's thing translates into real business action.

For example, which insurance(s) do we want to sell? Will we stick with it, or do we follow the flights of profitability? How about country strategies - what does Next Horizon's mean for that? Under what circumstances will be sell a business? Buy one?

Next Horizon's tells us very little. It's fluff. But I'd like to hear him explain it.

Be honest about the current IT outage, it is not fixed. Let's hope folks don't have to sleep on the office floor this weekend to fix it.

What do you, Michel Khalaf, think are the top 3 problems at MetLife?

And don't tell me what any surveys say employees say. As the buck stopping CEO, tell us what you think.

Why don't the majority of us get any concert tickets at the company stadium? Tone deaf execs posting their Elton pics all over today. And we schlubs get half price cafeteria food. What a treat!
