Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Cenovus CIO "retires" suddenly?

I've got a girlfriend who works in IT who told me that the CIO just 'retired' out of the blue today. Guess he was a 25+ year career manager who just upped and "retired" without any notice? What the f**k is going on in management these days?

@7now+1aBvIJBn you’re really d-mb and bitter how about you do work versus posting on here and acting like a child.

@7eim+1aBvIJBn yeah, education is overrated. We should hire right out of junior high. That way our people would be getting great work experience while university grads are still in school.

When you look at who influences the choice of CIO it’s not surprising that you get a Husky electronics tech with no degree. CEO - lawyer, COO - Husky accountant, CFO - Husky accountant, EVP - 1 year “Masters” from a non-university. Circling the drain.

JH is not an engineer, he is CET, big difference, CIO material? I doubt it. He got there because Husky CIO was fired. Ian probably didn’t deserve to be tge CIO either but we have to deal with a bunch of uneducated and improvised IT leaders.

JH is an engineer however way more experienced than I.E and old clown direct reports who are running around like chickens who screwed up integration.

@4ung+1aBvIJBn you are right. The problem is that Ian at least was an engineer and Jason?

Since when do you need an engineering degree to run an IT department? There is an entire business school dedicated to information systems for heaven's sake.

What’s super funny is we are still running two different accounting systems from Drew’s great Conoco deal. Now it’s going to be three different systems or what??? This is a joke.

@2owd+1aBvIJBn The new CIO is not better qualified, he is not even an engineer. Bunch of leaders with high school diploma. Great future ahead

I just saw his announcement on LinkedIn. It’s been a few years since I’ve worked for Cenovus ... they really had a mechanical engineer as CIO ...yikes (FYI, I’m an engineer myself). Also, his LinkedIn profile is terrible, he would never make it if he had to change industries.

He told them the ERP and system integrations may take longer then planned.

As a result, he’s been ‘retired’

Did he retire or is he just another executive that will get a massive pay out and be around for a couple of years on a big fat $$$ contract? Or maybe he will get a big fat contract at one of Cenovus' many consultancies?

The new CIO is known for just following orders, the perfect leader for the job.

He probably asked questions he shouldn’t have asked. We are quickly learning not to ask anything and sit down and shut up. That’s the new Cenovus. Thanks Alex!
