Is Craig Chanoff being brought in to prepare the Higher Education division for a possible sale or to clean house?

Wow, so sad to hear these things when someone like RB has had br---t cancer twice over the last few years and she’s just ready to enjoy her life and relax. I wish I hadn’t opened this deal up bc you say pearson is toxic, I think you may protest to much.

When RB said "be a badass" at the NSM general session (in 2017) that was a license to wreak havoc on civility and fairness within the organization. Dunder Mifflin couldn't have screwed up morale and culture any better. Adios to RB and her "badass."

It’s not that you were “in or out”. It’s called “circling the wagons” and she had no choice in her position. She tried to make things better when she could. But her GM’s had their own agendas.

Post from TheLayoff.com

I’ve known RB for 2 decades also and in that’s time I’ve seen her treat people wonderfully and terribly. It seems that with her you are either IN or OUT. If you are IN, she’s wonderful, but sometime people that are IN become OUT, and once you are OUT, you’ll never get back IN. AND when you are OUT, she’ll make you life miserable. Pearson lost a generation of talent under her watch, and not by accident.

@7cde+1eK0OjWr There are no "classy" people left in the business. They are all either dead or long retired. Publishing used to be a "gentleperson's" game. It was comprised of smart, funny, interesting people. It was a privilege to know and work with them.

The last of those people left the building in 2010 or so. Those left are/were nothing but mercenary, self-servers.

I don’t know anything about Craig but why didn’t they promote a regional VP or DG or recruit nationally? It seems suspicious that he has handpicked with little experience in publishing. Maybe he is a great leader or he is going to help sell the higher Ed division. I think we will know fairly quickly.

"Is there really any chance that business will pick up?"

Here's a hint . . . the company suffered a double-digit % decline in courseware during 2020. The very year that everyone had to flip to remote learning and demand for courseware was at its highest.

Here's another hint . . . that same company has now announced a fire sale subscription option, in an attempt to eek out some revenue from someone out there.

What do you think?

The comments about RB are disgusting and classless. I've known her for almost 20 years and she's about as genuine and honest as they come. The fact that she's leaving says a lot about where this company is headed.

@7pxz+1eK0OjWr. Ummmm. This can't be a real question. Are you a bot? But I'll indulge.

No.

RB announced her retirement months ago. New guy coming in has been in works for a long time. Hope he gets rid of NSMs. Huge waste of time & money & disgustingly irresponsible from all sides.

Wow. They must be burning the building down for RB to go. No way she left on her own. Good for whoever pulled the trigger.

RB had to go. She lost credibility years ago, and it’s abundantly clear that the sales model and legacy sales force model is broken.

Good riddance RB, we will not weep for you and your golden parachute. We all saw through your fake tears, and some us saw your dark side.

@2hgd+1eK0OjWr One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how there are so many "d-mb," smart people. You know the phrase "there is a su---r born every minute?" Well, many of those people work at investment banks and private equity. (See APAX purchase of Cengage.).

Sale?

Who on earth would buy this mess?

How many senior leaders have left in the last 6 months? Head of Technology, Head of HR, Head of Marketing, Head of Higher Ed Sales. I’m missing other key departures but that is telling that so many Executives are leaving. Old man TB is still driving the ship with all of his arrogance and missteps. Time to make an exit myself.

Looks like a good solid social justice warrior based on his Linkedin. No content experience at all.

This is all optics about turning Pearson into a technology company, which we will never be.

He'll be gone in two years. Virtually everyone I know who worked at BB, including some stunningly incompetent people who came to Pearson from Blackboard are completely insufferable and never...ever last.

Probably to clean house. He needs to bring in some new people to turn this ship around. Starting with the regional VP’s will be a good start. That will be the fastest way to change the culture of the Sales force and get reps selling again.
