Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Thoughts on Q4 merger ?

It's looking more and more like the ILEC assets will be integrated with Frontier by Elliott. I keep hearing mentions of it from coworkers and on here. Nothing really from the Frontier side of the house?

Any idea what the plan is for the CLEC assets after the ILEC is gone?

1+1 =3

Elliot purchased the controlling share of both companies at fire sale prices. They want their money back.

Management has no clue. You have to say we’re done and be done. Lil T goes and has caviar with some Hospital still on PRI’s and TDM. Then he makes people bend over like Gumby to try and fix a handicapped Dinosaur. Management and direction of this company is comedy. Just hoping I get 5 more years in but my laptop is waiting for a package.

I forgot that we Abandoned that customer base only to require some of them through the EarthLink merger.

These spaghetti networks are too intertwined to undo them in a reasonable amount of time. I would agree that 5 years is reasonable even though leadership says get it done in a year.

The is nowhere to migrate the TDM traffic, they have had sales converting every willing customer to VoIP for a few years. They lose money on the tdm sites and it will be turned down, won’t take that long. Those customers insisting on tdm services need to find a new carrier. WIN turned down and walked away from a subset of customers in the past and will do it again if it means saving tens of millions annually.

It's a Solomonic task - cut each baby in half between ILEC and CLEC and then sew the two opposing halves together. Even if they announced it tomorrow it's going to be years before the surgery is complete - paetec was how many years ago and there are still places on the network that are "paetec" rather than windstream? elink and bview integrations took how long? - oh wait clock still counting on that one, it's not done. If you're really worried about this merger you must be planning on being here for at least 5 more years, so just buckle up and enjoy the ride.

You can't exactly shut down 600+ sites overnight. I'm sure that will take some time and planning. We used to have entire teams devoted to this but we let most of them go.

Earthlink had a team for this that was consolidating facilities. Their former EVP was suppose to save $1B in the 1st year of the merger. Guess we know why he is gone!

IF CLEC is carrying ILEC traffic they will just bill them accordingly until they find another carrier for the traffic. They can also work out some smoke and mirrors deal like WIN and UNITY did.

In my area, CLEC is carrying a ton of ILEC data traffic. CLEC also has Winterstate.

Been doing a lot of T1 grooms for EarthLink traffic, and have done the survey to power down one of their Colo sites.

Been doing a fair number of DS-3 consolidation grooms over the past year as well.

TT probably has a bonus riding on cost savings initiatives. We can't fix the AI automatic dispatches for network alarms, even though we are a software development powerhouse.

TDM sites are closing now. At least 600 on list I saw so far

CLEC will have pretty much all the Central Offices and collocations shut down. They just need a few sites for SD-WAN and OfficeSuite. We lose tens of millions annually on any TDM site. They need to be closed immediately.
