Work-life balance

I joined six months ago and it's been ridiculous ever since. I have zero work-life balance. Is this normal or is it something that will lessen the longer I'm here? If this is the usual, then I'll start looking for something new right away - if I can find any time to do it.

OMG. Get over yourselves. This job takes a little less than a third of your day. What you do with the other two thirds is your business. And ONLY your business. Grow a pair and stop expecting an employer to validate your personal worth.

The reason there is no work life balance at SF is because no employee has freedom of speech and is not allowed to speak out of their narrative. If anyone does, they will do everything to make your life miserable or document to terminate. It is Orwellean. People are not allowed to have a life within SF.

OP, you are going to have to explain what you mean by work-life balance, because SF is actually pretty good about amount of hours. Even when I had mandatory OT, it was measured in hours per month.

But you might mean stress and workload, and that is something that is both on the company side (not staffed correctly, work not distributed well, poor training for the work you are doing) and on your end (managing your own workload, being able to disconnect from work, etc).

So you got to figure out where the issue is before we can say if it gets better or not.

State Farm (and any company really) will take every bit of time you're willing to give them. Work life balance is something you create, not something you receive.

My manager increased my authority to push claim close too. I love wfh with this job, i can stand hearing all other people talking over their phone in the office. I cannot focus on what I am doing.

To OP. Unfortunately, it won't "get better" in terms of work life balance until SF decides to hire more adjusters. Don't feel bad. It's not just you. It's everyone.

What kind of balance were you expecting? Unless you are in management OT is rarely needed so you shouldn’t be working more than 38:45.

The short answer is NO. BUT, if you're in Claims and it's only been 6 months shouldn't you be in training learning how to even do your job before you worry about that?

If you make it beyond 3 years, you passed the average turn over at SF in operations. The short answer to your question is NO! It will never get better. You are an expense to them and not an asset. Your life means nothing to the company.

As the “current model” was rolling out, things were really bad. We would have 200+ tasks and 40 voicemails at the start of our day. Everyone was miserable.

You know what our manager did? He increased everyone’s authority so that we had the ability to quickly settle and close the claims. If we owe for it and the invoice or estimate made sense, we were encouraged to pay it and try to close the claim. Inventories went down. Morale improved. Customers could get repairs and move on with their lives.

Thank god for him & for being in an office at the time. I can’t imagine having to go through that fully virtual but that’s the reality for so many CS’s now… actually, sounds like they have it worse than I ever did.

It’s hard to say whether or not your situation will improve. It doesn’t seem like the majority of leadership wants to find solutions to our problems anymore. They just want to push their agenda and stick to their model.
