Office is a ghost town

What are the odds management will downsize from an office they paid top $ to fit out a few years ago? Or lease out a part to some dodgy crypto shop?

@6ww I think a lot of companies in the US have two flavors they'll either cut you off immediately - network and physical access revoked before you're out of the meeting, escort you from the building OR they need you to train someone else so they offer you some kind of severance or other inducement dependent on your continuing through a specific date and effectively transferring knowledge. In this second version, some companies will require or "encourage" working remotely during that transition period.

For companies who want those transitional folks to work remotely, I think the reasoning (offered previously) is similar to the reasoning of immediately escorting someone from the building.

@6tw I think most companies treat this similarly once they tell you that you're losing your job. They probably are concerned about morale and safety - just like being escorted to the exit after you're let go in person.

@6r9 All teams that had to train their replacements - Service Desk, Command Ctr, App support. Why not? It is not like the people in India/Philippines are coming here to be trained. I can only speak to IUS. Since it is harder to dump workers in UK/EU/AUS maybe they will keep those people, or work through a longer process to dump.

Any chance of a roll back of the 4 day mandate? It has tanked morale and productivity. It seems like it only exists to justify $$$ office space and avoid layoffs/redundancy payouts.

Well jells of the Distribution team. Yes, I’m definitely out seeing clients so not in the office for most of the day. No, I won’t say what my meetings were or if any sales were made. Free lunch in the office, yes I’m free for that.

@16q bludger. Had to look that one up, Pretty accurate. A lot of pompous, and for the most part the least unattractive coworkers, I think I have ever had the pleasure of being around. Yo hire some good looking people, it would go along way. Nice building but, wow

Ugly and poor performing not a good mix. People invest with their eyes. Kinda like eating.

@tq if full time remote workers are forced to return, you'll see a lot of resignations [but thats exactly what TRP wants to happen]. No severance to pay if employees leave voluntarily.
