Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

July 31 Announcement?

Probably just a rumor…but is there a “big announcement “ coming on July 31? If so, hope it’s some good news for the org!

The GEICO sub Reddit is savage and full of tea. We need that too.

Yes, a good indication this place lacks real info these days. Look how there are now three threads here about this announcement that never happened. Ive been here for a while and watched this place be a good spot for inside info, transition into nothing but negativity and bad info. Three threads on this announcement that never was a thing....three...but yeah better than HCL threads that otherwise dominate this place

I think it would be better to create a reddit subgroup for SF employees or something, this site just has too many people posting with odd motives (i suspect its the site owners gaming engagement, seen this on other dead forums for other companies automated announcement and "any layoffs" with no responses. For some reason people post here....last decent info on this place was back when they were racing to close all the LOC before covid

"if there was a timed announcement it would be on SFnet with more info. this isnt how SF works. Pretend to work here better in order to draw up engagement for your website. "

they have done weird stuff before so nothing is off the table but yes, there should be something on Sfnet prior to the "meeting or announcement" unless they want to be sneaky nothing will probably happen on the 31st

@5dzn. HUGE assumption that someone put all their eggs in the State Farm Basket! I never did and we now get three pensions 2 of which are Union. Never ever put all your eggs in one basket. Basic Finance!

@5fpb-your time your choice. You clearly made a personal decision that comes with some big financial costs. If you can live on less money the rest of your peers have at it.

Hey 9WQF, unfortunately a bunch of the people that were rebadged did not have a choice about existing the pension early.

@5ysc-no. It is the same advice as for taking Social Security early, full retirement age, or at 70. The conventional and consistent advice is to take it early if you are in dire straits financially or don’t expect to live very long. Regarding the pension there are heavy penalties if you terminate before 62. Would you rather have an annuity (pension) that pays you $25,000 yr or one that pays $50,000 yr. if you work a few more years. Yes you can obtain the $25,000 early but if live anywhere near your life expectancy you will end up with less. Live beyond your life expectancy and receive much less. You cannot expect to get anywhere near the investment return to offset the early decision.

Nice to see there are still people who put the needs of the company over their own personal needs. Time has no value to company men.

@5klh that's actually not how it works.

Dollar amounts go up, but the amount of money you'd draw taking it early and more than off sets the difference (and has higher end income if you invest it correctly)

But thanks for the...info?

@5klh. Your education wasnt worth it. Watch your pennies and the dollars will follow. My time is just that MY TIME and it cant be bought. The time I have is just that MINE! I was able to go early because I didnt waste my time. I cant be bought even by any fortune 500.

You retired early and left more money in SF’s pocket than yours! Brilliant strategy. Should have gone to school…..enjoy 1/2 of that pension.

Most of the good ol boy id--ts cant retire due to divorces, addictions, and living beyond their means. Notice most stay till 65. Tell you something? Theyre jealous cause I retired early and they thought they sc--wed me. LOL.

Love how these A-holes expect the US consumer to support their business(they are based/cover) the US, but do not want to support US workers.

The company is on the verge of a massive exodus due to retirees. They aren’t going to have layoffs anytime soon. They will need to staff up and make sure the new hires are ready to learn from the expertise that will be lost over the next five years.

I have seem signs of they are planning to lay off people, its subtle but they changed the policy on terminations and retirements and now suddenly they want everyone's personal email added to work day to "go paperless" upon further research i found it has to do with the paper work HR has to send to someone when being terminated (voluntary or not) this took me down a rabbit hole where i found out they changed policies in 2023 effective 2024 regarding compensation when an employee gets terminated and also changes to the yearly bonus even if someone voluntarily retires, the amended a ton of HR policy and all is linked with the sudden urge to get employees to add their personal Email to work day.

don't worry its probably nothing except cost savings , however reducing the work force is an excellent costs saving measure specially after the huge underwriting losses SF suffered under tipsod.
