Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Who's getting laid off in March?

When will we get more details about March layoffs?

I posted earlier but was wrong in my answer. I left the company recently. Health insurance terminated at the end of the month I left. So yes if you resign on the 1st of the month, your insurance doesn't end until the 31st.

"When Your Employment Ends

"If you employment with the Company ends or you retire, your Company-sponsored medical coverage for you and your dependents ends at midnight on the last day of the month following termination of active employment unless your are eligible for the MetLife Choices Plan benefits. However, you may continue the medical coverage in effect for you and your Eligible Dependents for up to 18 months under COBRA."

I left the company recently. Health insurance indeed ends on your last day of employment. Some other benefits such as term life insurance end at the end of the month. Not sure why the correct responses are getting down voted.

@former employee: I can't hear you. Speak up. Was your last day with MetLife at the end of a month?

@6los+19Ig6scA Two questions:

  1. What day of the month did you leave? Specifically, did you leave the last day of the month?
  2. How long ago (roughtly) did you leave?

If you left recently, and your last day wasn't on a month end, I think you were not told the truth.

I am a former employee and the day I left the company is the day me benefits ended. If you want clarification, contact HR directly.

So, if your termination date is March 31, you're coverage ends on the end of the month, which is that day.

But, if your termination date is April 1, just one day later, then your heath coverage continues till April 30. You get an extra month of health care coverage.

@6ety+19Ig6scA Are you with HR and trying to save the company money?

My copy of the Medical SPD says:

"Medical Plan, Dental Plan and Flexible Spending Account (Health Care and Dependent Care) coverage will terminate at midnight on the last day of the month following termination of active employment, rather than at midnight on the day that active employment ends."

If it is old, please post the new verbiage.

Health Insurance stops the day you leave the company. You don't get an extra month of health insurance unless you elect COBRA.

Always quit or retire on the 1st day of a month; not the last.

You get an extra month of Health Insurance that way.

Those people were already notified. You may recall seeing "retirement" emails with a last day of March 31st.

Or has that been proven to be a false rumor?
