Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Fast tracking “yes men/women”

Over my entire career I have seen so many employees who don’t have the knowledge or experience quickly climb the ladder of “success” to become part of management. It is very daunting to see this occur time and again and the only criteria that is required of them is to not buck the system or ask the hard questions. I know many of us would rather have a manager or supervisor who can lead but unfortunately those seem to be a thing of the past.

The focus on the safety risks of office cubicles is indeed shocking. What is more surprising is how quickly more credible risks can be brushed away by sweeping the issue under a rug or by sweeping the employee who raised the issue right out the door.

Always was astounded the number of completely inept and incompetent people that hung out in my managers office. Time and again I thought well hey I'm the one working. My numbers and work will outpace those lackeys......6mo later...please welcome the lackeys to management!!!! WHAT?!?!?

The whole ship is springing leaks. I'm glad I got out when I did. BIG OIL is sinking fast.
The agendas, the zombies walking to and from their cube. The constant safety push for people in cubes cracked me up! I saw someone waste a WEEK on ergo assessment/chair and desk setup!! w-f is that? I completely thought this place was amazing. After seeing someone who was late EVERYDAY, didn't do her work, and was constantly telling stories that were VERY inappropriate my manager fired her.....but as her daddy was head of security...she went to another dept....I was gobsmacked!!

@6gfu+1a3wW3FY I was wondering how long it would take for this to be seen by Concho folks. When I was at COP it was almost like making money by finding the best way to produce oil and gas was secondary to the constant bombardment of diversity push and promotion of things that do everything but bring people together. By creating groups for specific people based on race or gender or whatever, to me it seems this would drive a wedge between working together with everyone. The most diverse you can be is the individual as we all are unique. I don't understand why putting people into groups helps promote diversity...but what do I know? I still think the best person for the job should get regardless of the gender or race. Last I checked, money is green and if you aren't making any, or maximizing what you should, then that needs to be fixed first and foremost.

Really seeing this the first couple of months at Concho. I'm not really sure how COP makes money. From my observation, COP is a safety/virtue signaling company who produces a hazardous hydrocarbon by-product.

It seems like many and yet such a small percentage (1%) actually make it to the level. The rewards are incredible and that reward drives the behavior or many more who will never ever reach he top 100. Give it up, push back, make your voices be heard. Don’t just fall in line and give up.

Rampant narcissism r—ds the growth of all companies, but it will actually destroy a company whose life blood is based on science and technology. The Earth doesn't care about our "reindeer games" and the poor decisions that flow from them. As a natural resource extraction company, our prime directive should be to employ the most creative and brilliant humans we can find to decode the Earth and unlock the precious gifts hidden within.

Unfortunately, our rulers have opted for a different strategy.

If you have seen this occur for years and acknowledge it is the way to get ahead, yet do nothing but complain, then YOU are the fool.

Also dont forget the relatives. If your dad, brother or mom works here you are getting hired and promoted even if you're incompetent.
