Thread regarding PNC layoffs

12/3 Tech Fireside RTO announcement.

Question was posed at this quarters fireside chat where Demchak essentially "hinted" that 5 day return to office will be required following a flowery rant about how while WFH "benefits employees" it "harms the company" and that he is trying to imagine a world where "he is asking you to do your job".

Good luck everyone in Pittsburgh, I would not plan on a cost of living adjustment or a commute benefit coming down the pipeline while Ol' Bill claims his 2026 stock award of the tens of millions.

So this guy has been in charge going back to 2013, made the decision to start remote work, then 6 years after a pandemic now it is a problem? The entire staff should refuse this order, management included, and watch this guy get canned over it.

I guess bill dummy will see how much harm to the company going into the office is in contrast to being remote. highly likely that the merger is affected and not to mention operations with all the people that will likely leave because of this

@604 How are we safely finding like minded individuals to start the unionizing effort? We all know the executives and HR goons are monitoring this site.

In a previous comment an organizer with Committee for Better Banks email staff@betterbanks.org reached out.

Nick Weiner is a union organizer with CWA. Text me at 202-352-7944 or nweiner@cwa-union.org and we can schedule a meeting. Feel free to google me, you'll find my name in many news article regarding Wells Fargo workers organizing a union.

@5zf you have the right idea but its calls a strike, and you do it after you unionize.

Perhaps someone needs to determine if there is disparate impact of this policy on women or people of color. My hunch is that there is. Even if there isn’t, the impact to those groups is likely high. Maybe the threat of legal action or some bad press will get their attention.

@5xr I actually asked my manager how long I can refuse to go to the office before I would get terminated. Since it’s not a productivity issue and more of insubordination, you only have about a week or two at most. I did confirm this with employee relations as well.

@5yt he's saying that going into an office 5 days a week will cost him $10k of his salary a year, between oil changes, gas, other car maintenance, childcare, etc.

@5yt Factoring in increased cost of living, at my current salary, results in a ~10k pay cut. I would need to buy a second vehicle, a bus pass or parking pass, my car insurance mileage would go up increasing my rates, I need to pay for extended childcare hours, my cars wear and tear would increase, and to top it all off the extra 2-3 hours of commuting is more work for less pay.

@5ys Say this again? You can take a 10k pay-cut if you want to stat remote? Sorry you lost me on that one. But then again my brain is total mush after this day

I was honestly fine with the mediocre pay because I was hired for a 100% remote position. I just got a 10k pay cut if they call for my "return" (I've never worked in office at PNC) Wednesday.
Not perfectly comparable but why not just make every job tip/commission based while we are moving goalposts? That would save a ton!

@5yf if you want move, like home buyers move. You now need permission to do so. I’m assuming because it could take you out of the distance to be able to come to office. CULTURE 🤣🤣

@5y7 yup it’s so bad that no one on my team can get bumped up because their isn’t enough in the ‘bucket’, so therefore no one else on my team would get a raise.

@2dx I dislike Bill but I think that's a department thing. My department and numerous others that I know of were able to leave early both Christmas & New Years Eve.

@1q6 my friend's manager told him today that this year's raises are the worst he's ever seen. Send us back to pay for parking and give us cr-p raises. It's absolutely a soft layoff.

@5y2 97 miles from a hub. I’ll also move further than that if that’s too close lol

@5y2 what is considered a Hub?

by

Post ID: @5y3+1kbjhrba6

@5y0 if you are near a hub and do not work for customer care, I would be prepared for the worst. It seems it’s happening regardless of remote or not.

@5xy Honestly as long as I stay 100% remote and I keep my current position, idc about career movement. They don’t even pay enough even if I get promoted and now going in office 😂 what a joke that would be.

@5xm Absolutely a soft layoff. When we merged with BBVA and then PNC did layoffs, they caught so much sh-t over it. This is the easiest way to clean house for them.

So managers got the email today. A conversation was already had with one of my coworkers, that we are returning five days a week and she is outside of any hubs. So by being fully remote, you will not get promoted and cannot get hired into another team because managers are going to be required to hire people who can come into the office. Basically we are all effed. And I work in technology so there is the answer if you will be affected.

@5xm Insane lol. I am 100% remote since 2019 and team is all across the country. I have a pretty chill manager, so hopefully I’m safe from this bullsh-t. Otherwise I’ll just refuse until I get my severance. Good luck to all. And a big middle finger to bill d-mbchak

@5xn I can’t say too much, but my understanding is that everyone will get an email on Wednesday with specifics. If you’re staying remote, my assumption is that would be in your email on Wednesday.

Thanks for the heads up this has been making me nervous. I’m under the technology umbrella and work fully remote. Did you get an email from executive offices or your direct manager or were you pulled into a last minute meeting?? Just want to know what to expect

@5xk
Yes. Not all of them from what I hear (CCC will stay remote), but I’m on a team that was fully remote 10+ years prior to Covid and we are being forced back 5 days a week starting in early May. This is a highly specialized team that had previously been exempt from going back. The lack of flexibility here tells me they are more than willing to lose people. This is a soft layoff.

@5xe 1 day a week pre-COVID. 2 days a week since last year. Now going to 5. Also just heard that another team who has been FULLY remote for 15 years is going back 5 days.
