Ageism is very real. Why im looking to change careers where age isnt that big of a factor. Im 52 and single. If they think i can just fly free until 65 theyre nuts.

@5vxo+1rqNDbd4 Boy is that the truth. I'm 50, worked at Anthem for 20+ years without a single write up. RIFd in October for literally no reason. They said it wasn't personal, just a business decision.
I've been working remote for the last 15 and suddenly was required to go back to the office despite my commute taking over an hour each way. They "mapped" it and got a drive time of like 53 minutes so I didn't get an exemption.
I've been through so many reorgs, restructuring, renaming, CEOs and whatnot that I can't even count anymore. In my time at Anthem, I had at least 13 different "managers," 9 of which were in the last 10 years. Somehow I was able to adapt to the constant upheaval and continue to provide excellent results with very little support. My most recent manager I'd only had for 2 months. The one before that, less than a year. They made that one do the dirty work since I'd only met with them a few times.
They did provide me the list of the ages of people in my group and which were RIFd - Only 2 of us over 50 and only me let go. But the other person was 64 so I guess they were going soon anyway.
Just goes to show you what hard work and loyalty brings you...nothing.
They are stragetically riffing 50plus year olds (like all of corp America) and making sure there are enough "young" folk in the mix to disguise that fact. I was told this by a corporate health care lawyer. Very common practice. Plenty in my dept work remote even new hires - with no issues nor requirments to go to office, and are young and not riffed nor worried about it. Overseas and over 50. That's what it's all about. Doesn't matter how many years of service. Gotta admit though some people were there way too long, in the HR rif call many couldn't even figure out how to mute their Teams microphone. If riffed, be sure to exercise your rights. Ask questions. Ask for a list of names in your department and their age who are riffed. I did. Never got it. illegal. But they already know that. Good luck to everyone. Must be very stressful.
@nnd+1rqNDbd4 I'm so sorry that happened to you. Feels like it's going to happen. Not even a good AIP or Merit makes you safe.
So sorry for anyone who was impacted. It’s just a matter of time for that meeting invite to come my way
Sad to hear and praying for anyone who was RIF
I was RIF'd today, as well as a coworker. I got that outlook invite this morning.
Has anyone heard of RIFs today if so what area.
I know of one today, but don't know details.
I want to leave and many others do as well.
Its coming then again in May and later in the year.
