Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Suddenly useless

How is it that all these years I’ve been able to do a bunch of work, everything they’ve demanded of me and even more than that, and then all of a sudden, they start treating me like I’m useless?
Can they be more unprofessional than they are? I doubt it. Bringing people into such situations in order to force them to leave this place on their own is really disrespectful and unprofessional.

@5nzd+1budjtyD and @5ltx+1budjtyD, I guess you've never been in this situation where your boss has changed and you've gone from hero to zero? Or you've gone into a job and from day 1 you've been beaten to s*** despite pulling off a miracle or two? Gee, count your lucky stars...

This person is asking for advice on how to handle a difficult and demoralizing situation, and maybe they've never 'been there, done that'. Documenting your performance and being proactive in self-defense is part of the game. In other words, taking action may not save you, but it will save your morale.

Your words are 'mean girl' stuff and not helpful. Zip it.

Before you dismiss me as one of those spoiled brats looking for my trophy, I've worked for a CEO who made the cover of Fortune as 'America's Meanest Boss', another CEO who got caught in financial chicanery and is serving 5 years in Club Fed, a couple of bosses with enough mental problems to warrant commitment with heavy meds, and a few real stars for whom I'm eternally grateful. Oh yes, I was legacy WellCare for long enough to realize the acquisition was a mistake.

Not having empathy for others won’t improve your own situation. In fact it sounds like you have Stockholm syndrome. I’m sorry you’ve worked so hard for these losers who don’t/didn’t appreciate you either. You surely don’t/didn’t deserve that. Folks on here are advocating that people who are being subjected to abusive treatment to make them believe they are suddenly incapable after years of hard work (with the intent of forcing them to leave on their own so the company doesn’t have to lay them off and can avoid legal claims and severance) stand up for themselves. They can stand up for themselves by taking detailed notes about new abusive behaviors, not allowing the company to make them feel like they are incompetent, and asking that if the company feels it must lower its costs by letting a good employee go, it do that with a layoff rather than with unethical (and possibly illegal) behavior. Corporations don’t often do the right thing unless they understand its in their interest to do so (hence the detailed notes).

LMAO - i should complain too and be demanding- i never got that trophy. He-l being a player even, doing all the work of 4 people because i had to prove how great I was even though i was never the coaches pet right? Or should i start crying now and how great i was but still sat on the bench away from the 'favorites' and now i need therapy? You all must be used to be that 'special kid'.... Wake up - welcome to the real world you sort of created for yourselves.

I'm guessing most of the complainers on this rant are younger and used to getting the almighty 'trophy' for just showing up. I mean really, if you thought by kissing a-s all these years and being good do little, you would be rewarded. Welcome to the real world. You looked stupid being a kiss a-s and now you want sympathy? Whatever!!! 'Demand a layoff' - who are you? Silly and i bet you had a bad attitude so you got escorted out. No sympathy here

This is exactly what “cynical” says (and they do it to certain categories of people). Document everything and inform them that you’re aware of what’s occurring. They’ll do anything to save a dollar…use that. Hold your head up high. You haven’t lost your edge. Just your willingness to be stomped on.

I am thinking this is the new tactic in order to minimize the layoff packages.

Document everything, like the commenter below said.
**Make sure you have both electronic and hard copies of all your previous reviews.
**Track all discussions--day/date/content.
**Record if you need it. (Look up the law on phone recordings beforehand, however.)
**Prepare status reports and send to your manager every week, especially if the manager refuses meetings (which you should ask for). That's another record.

If they are trying to fire you...What they will likely do is to put you on a 30-60 day notice or warning. Notes and recordings are bargaining chips.

If you are back at a desk, get anything personal you want to retain home.

Finally, line up a labor lawyer, just in case. A good offense works with your defense.

Document everything. Meetings. Date/Time. Topics. Agendas. Who said what. Seriously. Nobody does that and it’s the #1 thing that can help.

And don’t let them fire you. Demand a lay off if they want to get rid of you so badly. Their strategy is to make you so miserable you’ll either dig your own grave, or quit. I waited too long to be able to negotiate leaving on my terms, and eventually they set me up, and terminated me with only two weeks severance after I worked hard for 8 years. At the time, I would have gladly left with some kind of deal. In the end it was a brutal ambush, and I couldn’t even leave with my personal cubicle belongings. They threw out all of my notebooks, and said they were company property. Some of these were notebooks from classes unrelated to Centene that I brought to work to enhance my skills. I was escorted out of the building like an inmate in a prison. Humiliating and cruel. Don’t be blindsided!

My manager has no respect for the older workers (almost retirement age) and has no empathy. She only cares about compliance with what she wants and sucking up to senior management. Watch out for buzzwords like "resistance to change" and "unaccepting of feedback". Those can be buzzwords for "older, higher paid worker that we want to replace with cheaper more compliant workers".

Don’t you realize they are very unprofessional and could care less about their workers?
They want you to leave before you get your severance. Worst management ever and so
Obnoxious. Keep track of everything that is unethical.
